Title: Positive Lead Post by rl153 on 02/08/10 at 16:47:07 Whats the best way to cap off a positive lead from the battery so it can be available for a jump start ? Also is a #10 stranded copper wire sufficient for this? Thanks |

Title: Re: Positive Lead Post by rl153 on 02/09/10 at 09:12:57 That seems really good ,but I think I'd like to try something simpler . Do you thing a # 10 stranded heat resistent copper wire would be sufficient? Thanks. |
Title: Re: Positive Lead Post by Charon on 02/10/10 at 10:32:36 Considering that you want to be able to use this added wire to start the engine, use a wire AT LEAST AS LARGE AS THE EXISTING BATTERY CABLE. If you want only to charge the battery, not start the bike, a smaller gauge would be okay. |
Title: Re: Positive Lead Post by Routy on 02/10/10 at 12:28:14 Actually there is a difference between start cables and jumper cables. If it needs only a jump start, meaning the battery is not stone dead, but just need a little help, 10 or 12 ga would be fine. But if needing starter cables,....as in a no battery,....or stone dead situation, the cables will need to be as heavy as the battery cables, especially because of the possible extra length involved. |
