I was reading a review of the 06 S40 in Motorcycle Cruiser Magazine, and the article stated that the front brake had a dual piston caliper. I have an 03, and the caliper is a single piston.

My question for those of you with newer Savages is, do you have a dual piston caliper on the front brake? If so, would it mount on an 03?

Mine is an '06 and hubby said it looks like single piston.

Motorcycle Cruiser Magazine stated that the front brake of an S40 has a dual piston caliper.

We know that the S40 has a single piston caliper.

Any and all information from Motorcycle Cruiser Magazine is to be taken with the knowledge that they have no idea of what they are talking about. This is true about *all* news reporting. Writers are generally not experts in the field they are writing about.

I have an '06 S40. Since it is working on the 3rd set of brake pads and I've changed them, I can honestly say it's a single piston.

Putting a dual piston brake caliper into the mix of parts that make up a Savage would be just so inconsistent with the theme of the bike. Its just a very basic, simple machine with the least sophisticated pieces to be found, put together to make a good ol fashioned motorsickle. Now, for an owner to do that mod would be fine, but it would just be incongruous for them to do it at the factory. That they went with a belt instead of a chain still boggles my mind.

Harleys and Victorys have belt drives,It clean and last along time,Only wished they made difference sprockets for them.It has to take some of the vibrations.

Belt is no maitenance and at least currently... harleyist.

Yeah, I like the belt drive. I think only Harleys, Victorys, and Savages have them, except for a lot of the customs built from the ground up.

the kawasaki gpz 305 has one for no reason i can figure out being its a standard bike layout

My brother's 900 Vulcan also had one. Nice bike, when I can afford it, it's definitely on my list of 2nd bike candidates.

Oh, and my '08 only had one piston when I did the front pads. 8-)
