I think it's for the kickstand safety switch.

i thought it was for a oil warning light   buts its the neutral indicator

That wire taps into a few others and work together to check and make sure everything is like it should be to start.

Yes, that wire is the neutral safety.

what happens if you cut that wire???

would you be able to start in gear with the kickstand down, not that there's a good reason to though

If you want to be able to put the kickstand down just trace the wires from the kickstand back. There's a connector under the seat on the left side (when you're sitting on it). Just cut the wires before or after the connector, twist the wires together, tape em up, and there ya go.

Don't cut the wire.   You won't have a neutral light any more.  You don't realize how often you use the N light until the bulb burns out.....  trust me.
