Just bought an 03' with 5600 miles, and the guy told me he had never had the valves adjusted since new...
Intake's were perfect, .004",.. one exhaust was .005", the other .004"...

Not bad... ;)

Hmmmmm.... if I recall correctly, that means the bike was babied and should be in good shape.

Some bikes, like GS500's could go 15K before an adjustment and that is if they were trashed. There is one guy on gstwin called GSJack who has between 2-3 GS500's run up 200K + and he didn't touch a shim until he got to 80K on one bike.
I routinely - have had 17 GS500's so far see bikes with 15K miles that never had the valve cover opened still well in spec.
