Title: Hard paniers for savage?
Post by HappyHighwayman on 01/08/10 at 11:35:44

Last June I bought some Cruiser II Slant Saddlebags from the Motorcycle superstore. They fit fine, and zip off easily.

However, only 6 months later, the zipper on the right saddlebag is already broken, thus often ending rides finding the bag only attached by the safety snap.

They cost around $116.00....I've emailed the store to see if they'd take it back for replacement.

That said, are there any HARD bags that work well with the savage, and can be secured to the bike and locked?

I find the slant II are the right size for the bike, but they can barely hold a pair of shoes each.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm not paying 1/3rd the cost of my bike to add on some bags. $459.95?

Try GIVI U-21*. I've got them on my Savage Bagger and they work great. You'll have to build your own supports and adapters for the quick detach feature. They open outward from the top like leather ones, rather than hinged at the bottom like many do (brief case style). I got a used set off a BMW on CL and ended up with a bracket for the top case and some some good BMW rear turn lights also. Max
* there are listed as cruiser style.

Heading off for Christmas Shopping, December 19th, 2009.  They went onto the bike November 18th, 2004 (http://www.dslretorts.com/Paladin/archives/2004_11.html).    They slip on or off in just a few seconds: http://savage.andruschak.net/Paladin/LeatherLyke_off-on.AVI  (slow download).  Yeah, the  Leatherlyke bags are expensive -- but they are engineered to the bike so you don't have to do your own engineering and fabrication to get the bags to fit.  They are well made -- I don't do "cage" if I can help it, those bags have lasted over five years and still look good.

You can put other hard cases onto the Savage -- but you will be fabricating your own mounts.   Personally I like the idea of .50 cal ammo cans.

Fix then.......

Go to your local shoe repair shop and see if they are able and willing to sew in a new zippers.  If so, then go to your local cloth & sewing supply store and buy a set of heavy duty brass zippers.

T Mack has a good idea.

Another one to call is an auto interior repair shop. They should be able to do the job, also.

Too bad you're not in the Dayton, Ohio, area...I used to work for a father and son shop back in the early '90's. They were just incredible. The son still runs the shop to this day...

There were, a while back, some photos floating around on this board of some nifty hard bags (with side doors, I believe) that some had mounted on their Savages.  They were shiny, looked like old-school fiberglass bags.  Pretty slick and not real expensive.

I'm too lazy to search, though.

I think you are talking about the Mutazu hard saddle bags.

Nice job, 12, I think that's them!

I think the "LN" saddlebags are the ones I remember being on someone's Savage.

The bags looked really nice on a Savage.  I wonder if you can get other colors?

I have the white bags to match my bike but they also make them in black and silver. Here's the white ones mounted on my bike. Toymaker has a set of black ones on his wifes bike
