Title: Box meter gear replacement question?
Post by JohnBoy on 01/03/10 at 21:19:34

Making the speedo match the final drive in a chain conversion?

OK, so I can't replace the speedo drive shaft. Well the other end of the cable is connected to the "Box Meter Gear"
This part number is: 34131-19B00 which replaces the part number 34131-33450
The box meter is listed in several models
BOX, METER GEAR MODEL 34131-19B00  V/W/X/Y/K1/K2/K3/K4

I have to assume that the different models reflect different gear ratios.

This box gear is listed on the following models bikes and ATV's:
LTF300Y ATV
LTF4WDX King Quad
GSX-R750W
GXR-R1100W
LS650
(maybe others)

How do I find out if any of the different box gears would work for a 17/45 or a 17/43 chain conversion to give accurate apeed and mileage numbers?

Thanks for your insite and feed back.
JB

It would be much easier to fit a front wheel driven speedo.
I acquired a drive gear when I bought a GS450 wheel, which is the same size as ours.  The rest should be easy.

Speed past a cop and while he is writing you the ticket ask what your speed was and compare it to what was indicated?
