Title: Cheap leather seat Post by wolfmrp on 12/30/09 at 19:43:50 Just redid my seat with 2"closed cell high density foam $13.00 and an old leather jacket. I did the diamond Jim spray foam mod before laying the new foam then sealed it all in plastic. I spray glued and stapled the leather down and sealed it with large amounts of mink oil. I will put it back on the bike tomorrow. I hope my behind likes it. http://p1.bikepics.com/pics/2009%5C12%5C30%5Cbikepics-1865752-full.jpg |

Title: Re: Cheap leather seat Post by Phelonius on 12/31/09 at 09:28:08 With all the mink oil, you may find that your cat likes it for a scratching pad. you might want to go with something in bees wax or synthetic. Phelonius |
Title: Re: Cheap leather seat Post by WebsterMark on 12/31/09 at 09:39:42 That was a brilliant idea to use a coat Wolf. I'd like to know if it passes the test. |
Title: Re: Cheap leather seat Post by Serowbot on 12/31/09 at 09:58:17 nice job,... but,... something slightly anatomical about it... :-? |
Title: Re: Cheap leather seat Post by wolfmrp on 12/31/09 at 12:10:57 So I went for a short ride. As you can see in the pic the weather is not ideal. The seat is defiantly better then stock. :) If I were to do it again I would shave foam off of some key spots. I would make he rear part of the dip in the seat deeper. I think that would allow me to sit back more and would add to the comfort. A vn750 gas tank should be on my doorstep very soon. I may mess with the way the seat is mounted when I do the tank mod. However, classes start up again on Monday and time will be limited. :( Here is a pic with the seat on the bike. http://p1.bikepics.com/pics/2009%5C12%5C31%5Cbikepics-1866317-full.jpg |

Title: Re: Cheap leather seat Post by Jimmer on 01/01/10 at 09:57:50 Great seat, wolf. I installed a 750 tank on my savage, it's nice to have that extra 2 gal. of fuel. Took a few modifications on the frame to except the new tank, but well worth it. If I can help with some information let me know. Good luck with your project. |

Title: Re: Cheap leather seat Post by wolfmrp on 01/18/10 at 18:32:34 Just an update. I liked the look and feel of the leather but it rains way too much here in Oregon. I redid the seat with vinyl after several failed attempts at waterproofing the leather. It also gave me an opportunity to shave a bit of foam where my tailbone hits. :) Here is an updated pic. Oh, and I wrapped the header. http://photos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs232.snc3/21941_1349891425220_1169394560_31067682_4512385_n.jpg |

Title: Re: Cheap leather seat Post by wolfmrp on 01/20/10 at 08:19:58 The tank is not on the bike yet. It is from a Kawasaki VN750. I will get some picks the next time I am at my house(er.. exwifes house :-? ). Anyway I will get some picks. |
