Title: oil filters!
Post by Rocco on 12/16/09 at 11:01:42

are there any car oil filters we can use in replace of the stock one? my friend sent me a list and it gives a fram model for our bikes.

anyone got a clue? it would be sweet because cycle gear only carries the k&n version(15 bucks) and the nearest shop is outta the way, no biggie but advance is right down the street =]

the part number listed is 19-6178, i think it's a fram

i was hoping for something a car parts place would have, as cycle gear that i frequent the most doesn't have any.

and the shop near me charges like 7 bucks a piece, maybe i'll start buyin them online. any good places?

bike bandit. stock and emgo are both about $3. Dont just buy a filter though. Bikebandit has a flat shipping deal. It'd cost more to ship it than to buy it.

I don't think that number is a Fram number
It was referenced in this index but not cited to a specific mfr
http://www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/FilterXRef.html

I did look up Fram and they list a CH6000 as a possible number.
LS650 or S40 not listed but this filter is common in several bikes.
Also note that spin on filters typically have a cartridge built inside them.
While it would take some doing to find the right one to fit our bikes.

I bought a bunch from JC Whitney last month - they were about $2.50 each.  The reviews said they came with o-rings but the ones I got (EMGO Brand) didn't.

Anyone know where I can get a set of o-rings?  All the Suzuki shops in O-town have gone belly up!

Use a plain nitrile o-ring, doesn't have to fit tight.
The o-ring kit from harbour frieght is good for many places.

I allmost bought that o-ring kit the other day at Harbor Freight, but I thought with my luck there would be no way one of those would fit the Savage.  I will stop by tomorrow after work and pick one up, if your sure one in there will fit!

I need the big one that fits on the cover - I pinched it a bit last time I changed the oil, and it leaks a little.

I usually do the o-ring and spring on the the first oil change in the spring and then every other one after that.  I've noticed that it gets stubborn to get it to say in the groove if I go longer than that.

Ive never changed the spring & I have about 5 oil changes on the big O-Ring

I know I've changed the o-ring once in the... gawd, has it been 3 years?

but the spring? never... ever.
