Title: Charging System Voltage ? Post by Routy on 12/12/09 at 05:54:53 Anyone know what the normal charging system voltage should be on a fully charged battery that is in good condition. Freezing at 28, I unplugged the Battery Minder yesterday, fired up the thumper, and then decided to check the voltage,.........at 2000 R's it was 14.35,.....higher at idle....14.58. This seems a bit high, but the battery is weak,.....stands at 12.28 volts, and under starter load drops to barely 9 volts, so that could cause it to be a bit high I guess. Then, like an idiot, I took a short ride,.....very short I mite add :o :( Oh....sorry if I called anyone else an idiot :-/ |

Any 12 volt system when working properly should be charging at 14-14.5 volts. That really messed with me when I was in the Army. Military vehicles are 24 volt systems and charge at 28 volts, 36 Volt systems charge at around 40 volts. How long did you have the battery tender on? If it was on for a while, watch your battery, might be time to replace. |

Post by bill67 on 12/12/09 at 18:36:35 It doesn't made any difference if its 1 volt or 100 volts,If you have water in your battery and charge it with a battery charger and in 2 days of sitting there it want start it needs a new battery. Forget battery tenders and volt meters. Its just like the battery in your car. |
