Title: Longer Speedometer Cable
Post by caseyLA on 12/02/09 at 01:18:46

I'm going to mount a mini cable-driven speedometer up on the triple tree. Does anyone know where I can get a longer cable that would work?

thanks!

Some shops can make a cable for you to whatever length you want.  At least I know a dirt bike shop here in NC that made me a clutch cable one time.

mid eighties model Suzuki GT750 tach cable is a direct swap for our speedo cable, just a couple to three inches longer which is perfect for speedo relocate.

Hey savages,
i will relocate my speedometer in between the stock risers with a self made metal plate.
I found this one and since i do not get it that much with feet and so on, I would like to ask you if it will fit on the engine. The upper part as seen on the photo is not that clear and secondly, it is going to be long enough to reach the risers?
Thanks

The innerwebs have loads of good info, of course, anything we dont agree with is wrong, regardless of provable sources,

Sorry to jump in this thread with a question,
So the GT750 cable will be a perfect match to the bike.
Do all aftermarket speedometers fit this cable?
It would be nice to have all gauges on bars. So if you do complete the job can you post info?

The older Suzuki three cyl. tach cable will work on the stock speedo so it should work on any meter that is a direct swap-in replacement for our bikes. But it is quite a bit longer than three extra inches stated above. When I put the Harley tank on my bike I moved the stock speedometer to the middle of the handle bars and there's mucho cable length, which is good 'cause you have the freedom to route it without kinking.

Just keep it oiled well. That extra length means more internal cable friction which starts to bounce the needle around when it needs to be lubed. Just using your motor oil is fine. I run synthetic and it's held up really well.

I haven't done any mods with the speedometer, but Casey @ RYCA started this thread when they were beginning the build of their cafe kit bikes. They ended up finding a manufacturer or shop that was willing to build new cables for them that were long enough for their application of moving the gauges to the bars.  Here is a link to their cable that you can buy individually (looks like it is currently backordered)
