Might as well post this up, tear down of the bike.

Thanks to Jon for lending a hand for sure. Going to drop this off at Dave's this weekend to get hard tailed.

That poor thing is really going to have a sore butt after the hard tail surgery you're having done to it.  Be sure to allow plenty of recovery time before you start messin with it.   ;D

Title: Re: Here We Go
Post by Rocco on 11/26/09 at 09:26:17

very brave man! that's gonna be awesome!!

one of my friends was sayin he could cut the frame and shorten it or something....i have no idea what he was talking about but he said it would look ratty....my interest was peaked!!

Title: Re: Here We Go
Post by verslagen1 on 11/26/09 at 09:38:13

Shorter?!?
any shorter and it'll be a unicycle.   :-?

Title: Re: Here We Go
Post by justin_o_guy2 on 11/26/09 at 11:52:23

A front end swap to get the rake pulled in would be better than messing with the frame length, IMO. Maybe put some longer shocks on, too & get some clearance so the pegs didnt drag so soon in a corner & get it running hot, as a few have done, bob it so its light & go out & kill a bunch of higher dollar bikes with it.

Post by kevinphan on 11/26/09 at 14:46:44

It's going to be a super skinny lane splitting bike when it's done. Depending on when he can finish the hard tail it should be before January.

Low, slow, and loud is what I'm going for haha.

Title: Re: Here We Go
Post by Rocco on 11/26/09 at 22:29:22

low slow and loud? sounds like safe and cool 2 me bro!!

i like loud and nasty lol

Why is the front end all the way compressed in pic #2 compared to in pic #1?

Title: Re: Here We Go
Post by kevinphan on 12/01/09 at 04:25:10

Took the caps off the top of the forks and removed the load of off the springs. I'm going to be cutting the springs to lower it to about that height though.

6 months later I got my frame back, so freaking worth the wait. Dave did an amazing job with the hard tail.

http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l113/kevin_phan/D70s/D70/Savage6.jpg

Took a few hours to get it to this point. It should be rideable in a few days or less.

Love the long low hardtail look. Hate the hardtail idea. Id love to see a savage with a stretched plunger frame like the 60's triumph choppers. I would totally get in on that.

Love the hardtail, looking real good, new bars and tank too. What tank is that?

Niiice work!

I definitely need friends like yours,
cause mine are pretty darn useless  :D

...what are you gonna do now with all those extra savage parts?
You should start the 1st official SS.com parts raffle for the needy.

Cool video, please keep us up to date w/your project.

Low and dirty... It don't get any better!
It's got some kinda funky decal on the tank though... Will that scrape/ burn off?? LoL

It's a Sporty tank, fits pretty good.

I like the video!  It's one of the few vids I've seen with loud/open exhaust that seems to give you an idea of just how unholy loud it is.  Usually you just get distortion. :P

The bars are called Lane Splitter 1's from Rockschops.blogspot.com beautiful bars. Thanks, I figure keep the videos short and people will pay more attention rather than dragging it on.

Yeah man I still need to make a baffled/silenced exhaust, its just still too loud hahaa

Currently rewiring the bike and hiding most of it into the fake oil tank, was wondering what this here guy hose goes too

http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l113/kevin_phan/D70s/D70/RandomHose.jpg
Seems like a vacuum line that maybe went to the old air box?

http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l113/kevin_phan/D70s/D70/Wiring4.jpg
Fun fun fun

Title: Re: Here We Go
Post by justin_o_guy2 on 06/07/10 at 23:27:16

Snot vacuum, Kev. That goes to the wadded up brillo pad looking thing inside the head, where the crank case blows. I havent looked, but I wouldnt be shocked to see it go to the air box.

Title: Re: Here We Go
Post by kevinphan on 06/07/10 at 23:31:38

Hmm what do you think I should do with it? I had it plugged up when I started the bike earlier because it wouldn't start with it open.

Title: Re: Here We Go
Post by justin_o_guy2 on 06/07/10 at 23:34:43

Maybe run it to a small container for a while & see how much goo it spits. I think it needs to breathe, because IIRC, it is how the crank gets the air surges from the piston running up & down bled off. Maybe drop it down & then bring the end up & stick a small breather on it? Like an intake air filter. Ive seen some danged small ones..

Title: Re: Here We Go
Post by kevinphan on 06/07/10 at 23:38:54

Sounds good, will go the tiny air filter route, tanks!

Title: Re: Here We Go
Post by earlytimz on 06/08/10 at 05:42:58

Yeah man, that thing is your crankcase vent... It will breathe a lot when your engine gets hot. Put a small filter on it (AutoZone $9.99) & tie it up out of the way

Title: Re: Here We Go
Post by John_D FSO on 06/08/10 at 14:47:36

If I remember right, I've seen others go the small filter route also, and then zip tye it to the frame so that any oil that makes it into the tube runs back to the head rather than gooping up the filter.

Title: Re: Here We Go
Post by kevinphan on 06/08/10 at 19:48:04

Sounds good! Rewired the bike tonight, extended and shortened some wires now it won't crank, woops.

Title: Re: Here We Go
Post by Scott_H on 06/08/10 at 20:21:24

Hey Kevin,

What the story with your carb and intake?

Title: Re: Here We Go
Post by kevinphan on 06/09/10 at 07:30:13

http://www.knucklebusterinc.com/features/wp-content/2008/03/Intake-102-1.jpg

I'm going to be doing the same thing as Grail did, 90 degree bend to clear the backbone then attach the carb from there afterwards.

I removed the screen from the Sporty tank because it was all messed up and replaced it with an inline fuel filter for now. I'm using an SX650 intake pod as well.

Some skeletonized plate over that drive sprocket, maybe something with lines kinda like the handlebars? But, man, seriously, that chain & sprocket look cool, but DANG, thats dangerous as all get out. Hit a bump & your foot bounces, or fall & get a foot in that thing & youre screwed forever.
Nice lookin bike tho.

No progress.  In the middle of divorce right now and moving.  I still have to get some things sorted with the bike before it is even ridable.  New tires, brake pads, fix some stripped bolts/screws, new clutch cable...

Hopefully it will be running and ridable by the end of Summer.
