Sorry guys, I had just been wondering about the oil level after you change the oil. I had checked it with the bike standing straight up and when when I put it back over on the kickstand, I couldn't see anything in the sight glass and was just wondering if that was normal?

yep

When I first got my mine 5 months ago, the previous owner must not have known the bike had to be straight up to check the oil, because the level was over the low line while on the stand.  It didn't seem to hurt anything, so after changing oil (switched to synthetic) and doing a little expermenting I now run the level  on the low line when on the stand,....which is well over full when straight up. I don't have a drop of a leak, nor do I ever see any smoke, so even tho I wouldn't tell anyone to do this, it seems to be work fine for my bike.

Embarassingly, I dropped my bike while checking the oil myself. It just plain got away from me :'( I won't ever check it that way again.

Others have all different methods for checking the oil w/o hiring another person to help. Oil level doesn't seem critical on these bikes, but I'd sure rather have too much than not enough.

Checking oil level is kind of a vulnerable moment. It took a long time to decide on how to do it & have the control I need.

the oem engine guards' best trait is as a grab bar for checking the oil site glass

If I can see oil on the side stand then I go with it. I get down on one knee, grab the handle bar and rock it. I see oil slosh, I hop on and go.

Are you checking the oil with the bike warm or cold?  The manual says to warm it up, then turn it off and wait 3 minutes to check the oil level.  Just curious what everyone does...

I look @ mine before I start it up. Usually don't have time to start it up, let it warm up then shut it down for 3 minutes. When I'm leaving, I'm leaving  ;D

& IF there is ( & I agree w/ Bill, I dont think theres enough of a difference to matter), I dont see 3 minutes of running as enough to get whatever thermal expansion it could make to show up. IDK Why they say run it, but I quit worrying about that a long time ago.

I just check it cold & hit the door. Tho, its not uncommon for me to look at it when I get home & its all warmed up

If I checked it hot I wont have any clothes without burn holes.

Why? I have a piece of wood, about 3/4 wide & 1/2 thick with a groove that catches the top of the filler plug. No pliers needed, no gloves, easy mang,, easy

Why you tak'in the fill plug loose to check the oil ? You have a custom made dip stick too ? You guys said I had to use the site glass. I believed it !
Reminds me the first time I took the filler plug loose, I thought the dipstick had broke off :o

which is worse being a dipstick or a tool...

I have the butler hold the bike upright, while the upstairs maid checks the site glass. That way I get an accurate reading before the ride and a nice view of her arse in the process. And, I have yet to get a burn or an oil stain.

So, when you're lookin at the maid's arse, that's not an oil stain on your pants, huh? ;)
