Title: Valve cover gasket thickness?
Post by JohnBoy on 11/05/09 at 18:13:20

I got an idea that I can scan a valve inspection cover gasket into the computer and then make an exact replica in Corel Draw. I should be able to buy gasket paper, and cut it to fit the printer, then it is a simple matter of printing several on an 8X11 sheet of gasket paper and cutting them out. I'm betting eight or twelve to a page.
Before I tear the bike own I would like to have the correct thickness of the valve inspection gaskets, so that I can have some printed in advance.
Any info would be appreciated.

John Boy,

The valve covers are equipped with an "O" ring seal that, unless abused, are practically immortal.  We don't even put sealant on them, the "O" ring does the job all by itself, time after time.

I've already done the clutch side cover, maybe you could pick another gasket, something like the alternator side cover ??

Thank you for the input!
I got to pull the carb this weekend to do a little more shaving on the white spacer. I figured that a valve check was in order (8000 miles). I didn't want to pull the covers without something to replace the gaskets with.
If the covers have an o-ring set in a groove, I am good to go!
Thanks much!
JB
