Title: battery maintenance
Post by rl153 on 10/22/09 at 15:19:10

I hooked up a 1 amp charger on a timer to my battery and set it to go on for an hour every day .Is there any reason not to do this? Thanks

Nope.  If you aren't doing anything with the bike 15 minutes once a day would be plenty of recharge time at 1 amp.  All you are doing is topping off one day's worth of discharge which is minuscule.

An hr a day could cause  you to have to add water more often. Like was said, 15 minutes a day is more than enough.
Do your battery a favor and buy a 1-2 amp maintainer/float charger, about 20 bucks at WM, or about 7.95 at Harbor frieght. These can be left connected 24/365.

If you have more money to spend, "battery Minder"...or "Tender" has a model that goes into a high voltage "desulfation" mode every so often, and has been known to add much life to even an already sulfated battery.
