Anyone know how many miles it is safe to put on OEM stock tires? Also does the front tire usually last quite a bit longer than the rerar tire?

I got 4800 miles on ,I have a new tire for the back I'm going to change it this winter,The fronts normally last about twice as long as rear,But I will probably change that too so I have the same kind of tires on.

The factory rear tire on mine was pretty much bald at 7000 miles.

I replaced my rear at 11800  but I should have done it at 10000 or so. Im still riding on the front.

Tire life on OE tires varies according to how you brake and accelerate.  Wickers get around 5-6,000 miles on an OE rear tire, gentle riders get approaching twice that much.

No one has ever reported the OE tire as getting "unsafe" until the cords started showing, so you don't need to sweat that aspect.

Nobody ever said they were particularly great tires either.

But please feel safe to wear them out thoroughly, just go ahead and pick your replacement rear tire and have it on hand for "when the time comes".

just passed 7000 miles on my 07 and rear is balding just a little. Front doesn't have the tread it used to and I notice it on turns. I wouldn't feel comfortable on a long trip with other riders out of town right now and I won't ride my daughter around until i replace them. Maybe  that's the best test when you should replace your tires: would you give you kid a ride with the tires you have?

Original tires, I got probably 5,000 on the rear and 10,000 on the front.  Replaced with Dunlops, getting more like 8,000 and 16,000.  I nearly always replace the front every second time I replace the rear.

In August I had my NY state inspection done, the bike had around 7000 miles at the time and the profile on the rear OEM tire was looking a little squared off.  The service tech at the dealer looked at the odometer, then looked at the tire, then rechecked the odo and rear tire once more, before looking at me with a strange look.  The tread was somewhere around 3/32" and they just barely passed it, with a stern warning to get a new rear P.D.Q.

Back tire blew at 4975.  Didn't see any bald spots but was already looking at replacements.  Still on the front.

7900 miles on my '08, but the rear is looking pretty thin on the tread.  Probably going to be one of my winter projects to replace it.  Front is still looking ok.

off topic a little but after 3 dunlops i went with a metzler on the front. not only did the dunlops crack, dry and scallop they sucked compared to the way the metzler grips the road. i'm taking my same old offramp 10mph faster than i used to.
