I know I said I had a 95 savage in a previous post. Well, had to give the bike back to the PO. He never produced a title and being that he is my next door neighbor, was cool about taking it back. Went out and picked up a 2004 Savage with 6500 miles on it. I got a title for this one so it's officially mine. Runs great, took it out for a good 110 mile ride the day after I bought it. Only problem is the tank started leaking from the seams. Got some Tank Kreeme to fix it. Just going to be time consuming to get it taken care of. Good thing the weather here in the Fort Campbell, KY area hasn't been cooperating I guess. Kind of makes it hurt a little less that I can't ride my new bike because its broke.

You're better off finding the leaks and welding them, then kreeming it.
Also kreem or POR15 - I prefer POR15. I've used both, prefer POR15.

Already got the kreeme and started the process. I've used kreem before and was happy with the results.

Wife isn't too happy that I am having to put money in to the bike period. But hey, what can you expect for a $1000 bike.

$1000 for an '04 even with a leaky tank is a good deal.

Considering once I get the tank sealed up the rest of the bike is in great condition. Had my mechanic buddy look at it and do whatever tuneups needed to be done. He said it looked great inside. Its good to have free hookups :). The tank is leaking along the seam where the bracket is for bolting the tank to the bike. Is this a common place for them to leak? I dont know if this one had a defective seam looks like it wasnt welded very well and started separating a bit. Either way, I'm doing the tank seal tomorrow and modifying the exhaust as well. Already pulled out a couple of baffles, going to repack the pipe after taking out the rest.

I had a leaky tank from rust one time. Had it etched and silvered (a costly procedure!) and it developed another leak right away, where yours is. Never could get it fixed, finally had to replace the tank. A guy at the motorcycle shop thought the bike might have sat for an extended period and eventually rusted through. I suppose that is possible. When I bought it, it was about a year and a half old with 600 miles on it. It didn't rust through until I had it about 3 years.
