Title: Oil drain plug location Post by cunn1780 on 10/14/09 at 15:31:09 I thought I saw somewhere on here a picture of where the plug actually is. Can anyone provide a link or at leat explain? I think it's the one running parallel with the frame on the bottom gear shifter side of the crank case. Thanks! |

yeah, there's a pic somewhere. lay down by the kickstand look in directly behind it on later models there will be a 14mm hex head bolt peaking at you from behind the frame on early models it's a 17mm |
Title: Re: Oil drain plug location Post by Routy on 10/15/09 at 05:53:08 How do you guys figure that plug is running parallel w/ the frame ? I guess I don't know which way the frame is running ! |
Title: Re: Oil drain plug location Post by cunn1780 on 10/15/09 at 06:35:08 the one I first mentioned that "runs parallel with the frame" is the wrong bolt. The one pictured that is actually the real drain plug I would say is running perpendicular to the frame. Thanks for the help guys! |
Title: Re: Oil drain plug location Post by Routy on 10/15/09 at 07:16:13 There we go,....I feel better now :) I took it out only 2 months ago, and already forgot which one it was. Being on the left side, its kinda outta sight. I now copied the pic, hung it in the shop. |
Title: Re: Oil drain plug location Post by serenity3743 on 10/15/09 at 08:17:07 The drain plug is actually easiest to reach with a wrench from the right side, but you still have to lie down on the floor/ground to see it. |

Title: Re: Oil drain plug location Post by Rocco on 10/16/09 at 08:48:46 i used a mirror to see the bolt, then while looking in the mirror i got confused which was to turn it(since it was upside down in the mirror) lol u can see the top of the bolt if u look through the frame and stuff, sitting where the kickstand is. oh and don't try to use a car oil collector, they don't even fit. i didn't have any old pans but i used an old tupperware and it worked just fine... gotta use the thing on your shoulders as something other then a hat rack lol |
Title: Re: Oil drain plug location Post by Oldnewguy on 10/16/09 at 09:29:31 If you run the front wheel up on a 2x6 (1 1/2 ") it is surprising how much a difference it makes. After you get the plug out, lower it back down to let all the oil drain. |
Title: Re: Oil drain plug location Post by Serowbot on 10/16/09 at 10:18:06 I just put the wrench in the one spot I can't possibly see,... and I'm on it, every time... ;) If you know everywhere it ain't,... then you know exactly where it is.... :-? |
Title: Re: Oil drain plug location Post by Oldnewguy on 10/16/09 at 11:13:44 That works! |
Title: Re: Oil drain plug location Post by Skid Mark on 10/16/09 at 21:36:14 It works suprisingly well. The 1 nut you remove regularly, and it's invisible. Must be a rite of passage. Find the oil drain bolt grasshopper and you may ride some more. |
Title: Re: Oil drain plug location Post by Oldnewguy on 10/17/09 at 04:25:16 The thing that suprised me was that it looked like it held the case together, real close to the edge. |
