Post by Routy on 10/12/09 at 07:56:52

I'm still batting 100% on the search,......aint found nothin I've looked for yet  :-[

Could someone list the major differences tween the Sav and s-40.
And did the s-40 Bullie come out in 2002 ?

Thanks

Rich

Name and some cosmetics. Drag style bars on the s-40. Different design on the seat. No sissy bar/back rest on the s-40, have to purchase extra. Few little things here and there.

Suzuki went through the whole line-up IIRC and freshened things up, a LITTLE.

"Bullie"? First time I've seen that.

The S40 also got a flash-to-pass switch and four-way flashers. Somewhere along the way it got a change in headlight wiring so the headlight turns off when the starter is operated, and that might have been at the Savage - S40 transition. And the engine is painted black on the S40.

I'm not sure what happened when, but of course the S40 also has a 5-speed, revamped rubber plug to stop that oil leak, and a redesigned cam chain tensioner that makes it go faster  :D  <wakes up>

I can't think of anything else that hasn't been mentioned.  The overall gearing may have changed.  Some people say the gearing is too short, so they want to do a chain conversion.  Mine seems OK or maybe even too tall.. pulls 1st gear to 20mph easy.

Oh yeah, they added those little plastic fork guards too.

I was thinking the Boulevard name started with the '05 models.  But my memory could be wrong...

A friend of mine has a '04.
I think her's is a Savage,last year called that.

So '05 sounds right!

(Mine, '02, is definitely a Savage ;)

i'm pretty sure my '95 was the first year for the 5 speed, and i really like the black'd out engine on the newer models

- 1986 (& 87?) came with either pull-back or Flat (drag) bar.
- Engines became black on '03 Savage.
- Different rear fenders between 1-piece seat and two piece seats (just seat mount parts only)
- Boullie has different turnsignals
- Somewhere along the way, the Generator got a different plug.
- Somewhere along the way, little plastic deflectors were added to the front forks.

But when looking to buy a bike,  you really want to know what's the same, for the spare parts search.

1986 compared to 2009
Same Head.
Same Cylinder jug & piston (one painted silver, other painted black)
Same gas tank
Same Front fender
Same side covers
Same air box
Same Same oil & Air filters
Same belt drive system.
Same brakes
Same Wheels
Same foot pegs
Same shift controls
Other than some labeling, same Speedos

and
and
and......

2004 was the last year for the LS650 Savage and 2005 was the first year for the LS650 S40 ... essentially the same Bike, different name ... but will forever be the "Savage" to us veteran owners, regardless of the tank badge! 8-)

so a new engine would be no problem to switch over to my '95? good to know, only 8500 miles so hopefully i won't need a new engine for a long time!!
