Title: Memorial ride and party
Post by Phelonius on 10/11/09 at 13:46:18

Two years ago, one of our local riders came to a sudden end at an intersection about 1/4 mile from the shop where I hang out.
It was partly his fault for overly enthusiastic riding. ( he was on a high performance squid bike and enjoying it greatly).
A Winnabago was turning right in front of him as he approached the
corner. He noted that the winnabago would clear in time for him to zoom on through. What he did not see was on the other side of the winnabago, a car was entering the intersection from the right. Because of the winnabago the driver could not see that the bike was passing through the intersection at speed.
They met and as we say, Ramone was dead right about having the right of way. Since then, there has been a small memorial marker at that corner. I often give a quick salute to a fellow rider who rode with more verve than caution. I always wonder how I survived my younger days when I rode with the same careless abandon.
Ramones' brothers, both real and wheeled, gave a memorial ride and party yesterday.  The short tour would have resulted in some very expensive tickets if the revenue patrol had been in the area as they were riding much as Ramone had.  They ended up out at a private residence which had been prepared for a party of several days. Two live bands, one of which I think Ramone had been part of, played into the night as. Libations were drunk, brownies consumed, (yeah, that kind), and quantities of barbecue and other edibles were eaten.
The pungent aroma of smoldering hemp drifted across the place from time to time reminding me of my own misspent youth.

Phelonius     OOPs! I meant to post this in this cafe, can it be moved?
