Title: bed liner as paint? Post by JohnBoy on 10/07/09 at 20:00:24 Have any of you painted, or seen bikes painted, with truck bed liner? I know that it comes in different colors, and that it is almost bulletproof. The right texture and color might even look like my blue jeans. JB |
Title: Re: bed liner as paint? Post by Rocco on 10/07/09 at 20:18:20 like rhino liner??? awesome!! |
Title: Re: bed liner as paint? Post by Boule’tard on 10/07/09 at 20:39:35 I picked up a can of Rustoleum bed liner for about 8 bucks. I'll use it to paint the aluminum skid plate on my dirt bike. If the surface prep is done right, I think it will be pretty durable.. will try to remember to post results after plowing it through the sticks and stuff. |

Title: Re: bed liner as paint? Post by Serowbot on 10/07/09 at 22:35:26 believe it or not,... a guy here did it.... tank and fenders. He really liked it... Can't remember the name... If you do it,... we want pics... ;D |
Title: Re: bed liner as paint? Post by justin_o_guy2 on 10/07/09 at 23:38:01 Ive seen a pickup done up in it. Not one spot on the exterior wasnt sprayed. I thot it was interesting, but ugly. |
Title: Re: bed liner as paint? Post by 12Bravo on 10/08/09 at 05:27:21 I have seen a bike painted with bed liner and it looks pretty good. The frame, tank, and fenders were done in flat black. |
Title: Re: bed liner as paint? Post by Capt._Ron on 10/08/09 at 06:15:13 Several years ago a guy across the street from me restored an old Sportster. He used bed liner for the frame and powdercoated everything else in complimentary earthtone colors, not camo ;), looked awesome. |
Title: Re: bed liner as paint? Post by drharveys on 10/08/09 at 07:21:37 The Buell Blast had it's "sheet metal" done in Surlyn -- that's the stuff covering golf balls. Tough material, and the color goes all the way through. Minor scratches just polish out. I bet the bed liner is similar, though not as thick. |
Title: Re: bed liner as paint? Post by clueless-FSO on 10/08/09 at 12:27:15 I painted mine with black liner paint. I loved the look and it is indestructible. Also an attention getter. Everyone just HAS to touch it. Good thing fingerprints don't show. |

clueless - pics? My truck has Line-X bedliner. Absolutely love it! I also saw a truck completely covered with something similar once at an auction. Everyone was touching it too. Can't remember if it sold, but it did attract attention. I work for a truck equipment company (utility trucks/cranes/dumps/flatbeds, etc.). If a customer wants their utility truck coated, we contract it to Line-X too. |
Title: Re: bed liner as paint? Post by justin_o_guy2 on 10/08/09 at 14:59:15 If someone just wants to do this, would it be cheaper & would it look as" good" if they used the spray cans of undercoat that a bodyshop would use? |
Title: Re: bed liner as paint? Post by whistler2000 on 10/08/09 at 16:30:58 I used the Plasti-kote bedliner paint for the inside of my rear fender and a plate I made for under the seat. Seems to work good. Not too rough textured. |
Title: Re: bed liner as paint? Post by clueless-FSO on 10/09/09 at 10:13:43 Justin, I used the Plasti Kote spray cans. Hung the tank, fenders, etc in the trees while painting. Easy stuff to use and is tough. I'll try to find pics. Jim |
Title: Re: bed liner as paint? Post by T Mack 1 - FSO on 10/09/09 at 13:51:12 I saw a almost brand new Dodge pick-up (big thing) on I-78 in NJ that looked professionally done. It was a double take moment.... Not too bad looking..... |
Title: Re: bed liner as paint? Post by Biddie on 10/18/09 at 21:32:53 I bought clueless' bike and can put some pics up either tomorrow or the next day. I love the paint job makes washing her a lot easier. |

Title: Re: bed liner as paint? Post by JohnBoy on 10/19/09 at 18:39:20 Very nice! Just what I was thinking of ...only red. Did you paint it? What brand of paint? how durable is it...any soft spots or problems? Thank you for sharing JohnBoy |
Title: Re: bed liner as paint? Post by LANCER on 10/19/09 at 19:07:54 I have been thinking of doing it as well; the Dupli-color version. I got a bunch of it for the truck bed and after a little of test spraying decided that I areally like it. It sure beats regular paint for durability. |
Title: Re: bed liner as paint? Post by Biddie on 10/19/09 at 20:39:15 JohnBoy clueless painted it back when it was his bike he said what he used bake on the first page. There are no soft spots or scratches, but I have scratched my helmet on it when I hung it from my handle bar. This stuff is great I just throw my keys on the tank they stay, no paint to scratch and gasoline doesn't phase it either. :) |

Title: Re: bed liner as paint? Post by Boule’tard on 10/21/09 at 12:35:40 Whoa! Biddie's paint job does look good! I like it.. crinkle paint plus super durability in a can. That paint job blows my skid plate idea out of the water (I decided not to make a skid plate into a grip-plate after all). Good job, clueless-FSO 8-) |

According to the Duplicolor website, they think like Henry Ford did ... you can get it in any color you want as long as it is black. |
Title: Re: bed liner as paint? Post by JohnBoy on 10/21/09 at 21:29:29 well, that lets out lettering over the tank paint. Rats! |
Title: Re: bed liner as paint? Post by clueless-FSO on 10/22/09 at 16:39:35 Can't remember the brand name I used. It also came in red and white. I did prep everything pretty well before I sprayed 'em. I don't have a garage and did it outside. Like I said before, everyone just has to touch it ;D I sure do miss the ease of maintenance and repair on the Savage. But I sure am enjoying the Silverado ride! clueless FSO |

Yeah but you could emboss lettering or your own graphic design in the liner. I have no idea how to do it, but it would be awesome. Maybe put on a good thick coat, wait till half-dry, and stamp it with a design you've carved into a potato? :D Just thinking out loud. |
Title: Re: bed liner as paint? Post by Rocco on 10/25/09 at 10:04:38 if i ever get tired of having to constantly fight off rust on my bear metal cheap clear coated tank(which i hightly doubt i will) i'm spraying rhino liner on that thing!!! gotta be a little exciting lol |

Title: Re: bed liner as paint? Post by Texas-1-lunger on 10/26/09 at 18:13:45 I'm spraying my whole bobber project with it on every thing but the rims, the white walls and the ape hangers. so far I have the engine covers and the tank done it look sorta badass. ;D |
