Title: New Member From NC Post by FishHunt on 10/04/09 at 16:53:47 This is my first post here. I have been a member for a short time. I have a 2002 Savage and have used some tips and tricks from this site on my bike. So far I have did the seat lift mod, added a Silverstar headlight bulb, $10 Bell handlebar bag and added a Saddleman toolbag. Thanks for the tips and help. I want to put a luggage rack on the back of the sissy bar, get a good roll bag and put a Spit Fire windshield on. <><Fish |
Title: Re: New Member From NC Post by prechermike on 10/04/09 at 17:02:28 Where are you in NC? I am in Wasington. |
Title: Re: New Member From NC Post by FishHunt on 10/04/09 at 17:12:28 Near the center of the state, Asheboro area. Here is a picture of my bike. I added a $20 Stearns ATV seat cover to the seat. It add a little height and lots of comfort to the stock seat. I folded it in half and used the straps that are on the cover to secure the cover to the seat. Its been on for 500 miles so far with no problems and its a lot more comfortable than the stock seat. <><Fish http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh301/Fish_Hunt/IM000925.jpg |

I swear, that's what they think. Of course motorcycle = Harley too and repair often involves a sledge hammer. Cool. Srinath. |

Title: Re: New Member From NC Post by Oldfeller on 10/06/09 at 06:11:20 Ok, we gots us a ton of people in NC. We probably have twice to three times that number riding Savages that have never found the site yet. We do the Dragon run the weekend before 4th of July but we have never done a fall ride yet -- folks are busy with work and all. Is this fall any different? I dunno, lets see. |

Title: Re: New Member From NC Post by skatnbnc on 10/06/09 at 13:41:01 Well the 2nd Annual Open Fun Ride that i organise was this past weekend - and at least ONE other Savage was there - do not know if he is on this forum or not. It went well, with great weather and lots of twisty roads to travel. We have an awesome $1 ticket leather jacket raffle that is popular. For future - Our ride is always planned for the first Saturday in October. PM me, post here or check our website for details. www.coastalwomensshelter.org |
Title: Re: New Member From NC Post by Oldfeller on 10/06/09 at 14:05:09 Whups, we missed it. Ok, who has an other idea for a North Carolina ride? |
Title: Re: New Member From NC Post by Midnightrider on 10/07/09 at 06:25:40 I'm pretty much in central NC. I could put a ride together if anyone is interested. |
Title: Re: New Member From NC Post by skatnbnc on 10/07/09 at 09:49:25 Alright, in reviewing the registrations, there was (as I suspected upon a brief glimpse) another SAVAGE in my ride group last weekend!!! He did list it as a Boulevard, but I was not fooled. ;) Because I am the event organiser, I end up running around like crazy, and never have time to shoot the breeze with many riders or check out who brought what MC. So, question is - is that Havelock NC Savage rider on our forum? Cause we need some EASTERN NC rides. :) |
Title: Re: New Member From NC Post by Toymaker on 10/07/09 at 10:00:43 Well we actually a lot of lurkers here too. Mrs. Toymaker looks in from time to time, since she rides the Savage now. I take the old girl for a ride now and then too. (and no, I am NOT talking about Mrs. Toymaker!!!!! :)) |
Title: Re: New Member From NC Post by Oldnewguy on 10/07/09 at 12:27:30 HEADS UP! I got a virus alert from that Saddleman web site URL! Maybe nothing. :'( |
Title: Re: New Member From NC Post by littlefights on 10/07/09 at 12:32:14 I'll be moving to NC at the end of the year to start school at Duke. I'd definitely be up for some group Savage rides - should my homework requirements permit it! |

Title: Re: New Member From NC Post by Oldfeller on 10/08/09 at 20:51:01 Folks, do you have anything of note in your area? To you it is old hat, but to the rest of us it is scenery of interest. We don't need much of an excuse to get together -- last trip was to Mayberry to honor the memory of an old TV program for goodness sakes! Pick something -- anything. We should have a "piddly scenery" contest and ride to the worst case winner. ============= Fayetteville has the Airborne museum downtown. It has an old slave market downtown too, for those who like historical landmarks. |
Title: Re: New Member From NC Post by kk lewi on 10/08/09 at 22:41:17 Crystal Coast has the Aquarium (of which I could give a behind the scenes glance...On the right day. Sunday! Shhh). Ehhhh, about all I got. :-[ Not much else going on in this here region. I am a slacker and don't ride as much as I should but I see waves and waves of bikes here on the island. |

The Crystal Coast has a lot more to offer than that. Here is a picture of the not so shabby view from the top of the bridge leading out to Cedar Island. I took this last month while on vacation out at Harkers Island. <><Fish http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh301/Fish_Hunt/IM000904.jpg |

If the meeting spot was somewhere close to central NC we could put in a ride to Morrow Moutain State Park. http://www.ncparks.gov/Visit/parks/momo/main.php Morrow mtn is really beautiful in the fall. There are a lot of good back roads around that area that make for a good ride also. I am free to ride most any Saturday or Sunday afternoon except the 24th & 25th of Oct. <><Fish |

Title: Re: New Member From NC Post by justin_o_guy2 on 10/09/09 at 05:16:14 Nice pic, yes.. The name of the place, tho,, Harkers Island, kinda leaves me cold. Maybe everyone there has an upper respiratory problem? |
Title: Re: New Member From NC Post by srinath on 10/09/09 at 07:10:36 Yea lighthouses all along the coast are super cool. We have the second 1/2, the souther section in SC mostly yet to see. I also like the ski areas in Boone. Cool. Srinath. |
Title: Re: New Member From NC Post by skatnbnc on 10/09/09 at 07:27:13 NC coast is full of good rides, but you have to get off Hwy 70! The aquarium is super cool, and has a neat walking trail and lots of places to park the bike. There are loads of good seafood restaurants too. Fort Macon is a good bike ride, great views, nice fort history museum too. Beaufort and Oriental are good rides too, crossing the ICW several times and end at great views, beach and good food. New Bern itself is under massive road construction right now, so I will not recommend my town until that is finished in Jan 2010 for our 300 year anniversary. If you do want to brave the dust, see below... As for events - pick one! Oct 10-11 MumFest, New Bern Oct 22-24 Ghostwalk, New Bern Oct 16-17 Chili Festival, Havelock Oct 23 Lobster Fest, New Bern Oct 16-17 Folk Festival, Oriental Neuse River Race, Oriental |
Title: Re: New Member From NC Post by Oldfeller on 10/10/09 at 03:54:35 Ok, you got choices. Some are not too shabby looking either. So, somebody propose a date for a place and see who you get for takers. All ya gotta do is type it in .... |

I am planning on riding from Greensboro, NC to Meadows of Dan, Va on Sunday 10-18-09. Stopping there for lunch, then taking a short ride north on the BRP (Blue Ridge Parkway), then returning to Meadows of Dan and then back towards Greensboro, NC. This is a good little day ride. Its 77+/- miles from G-boro to Meadows of Dan. I would plan on putting 200 miles round trip there and back counting a short ride up the BRP. I am hpoing for sunny skies (heck cloudy and rain free is OK also) for this Sunday. If its better than 50% chance for rain I will postpone my trip. <><Fish |
Title: Re: New Member From NC Post by buttgoat1 on 10/14/09 at 10:00:04 I am in southeast VA. I hope to get a warm sunny weekend to drive down NC way, maybe go through the Outer Banks. Just head out with no particular place to go. Some of the event s Skat mentioned may be good. |
Title: Re: New Member From NC Post by Bigzuk on 10/14/09 at 19:45:19 Fish, welcome, sorry to be so late but I just found your post. I'm about as far west in NC as I can be. Marshall is about 25 mi.
