Title: Need longer kickstand
Post by tonefight on 09/27/09 at 10:31:29

Anyone know of a longer kickstand that will bolt right up ? Maybe off another suzuki model ? I kinda doubt it but thought I'd ask.

I just picked up a 95 that has longer tubes and possibly some rake ( really good weld job if they chopped the neck and looks like stock trees so I gotta hash that out )

Anyway it sits on a pretty good lean with the stock stand and I really don't wanna weld a piece in the middle of the kickstand.

How much longer does it need to be?  If 3/4 of an inch would do it, maybe you could drill the "foot" in a couple of places & bolt something light/strong on?

If you did weld a chunk in, why would that be a problem? Or replace the "leg" itself, by taking a length of light chain & welding the links?

Some paint &Woopeee! You gots it.

Buy a $3.00 hockey puck and bolt it to the bottom of the kickstand.... ;)
Mine has 2" taller shocks on the rear...

Hey, Serow, aside from clearance, what are the benefits from those longer shocks?

Yes,... off a Suzuki Intruder 800...

Comfortable,..... soaks up pot holes and RR crossings...
Also, better handling in the twisties,... especially if the road is not perfect...  more suspension in the rear, gives better rear tire contact over bumps.
Raising the rear, also slightly reduces front rake, and increases front/rear weight ratio... and makes steering quicker, and front tire more sure....

Highly recommended,... if you like the look... ;)

One thing,.... although the Intruder is a much heavier bike,... these shocks are plush,... I weigh 150lbs and they are good for me... I get about 1" sag when I sit on her... if you want more suspension for increased two up riding capacity, or are 200lbs+, you should probably look elsewhere...

Here's a view of the difference,... (from back when she was red)....
Note the angle of the muffler to the swingarm... no interference there, but you can see the difference...
also note the front fork rake....
it goes from a cruiser, to more like a standard...

This is good to know.  When I get around to putting hardtail struts on my Savage I will be able to swap my Savage shocks onto my Intruder 800 to lower it.
