Title: base gasket
Post by BurnPgh on 09/18/09 at 22:00:52

between the cylinder and case. Is gasket maker sufficient? Seems I forgot to order one along with all my other stuff and it took me two weeks to get what I ordered. Id rather not wait another two weeks for one gasket. Dealership would still take 3-5 days and since its saturday it would be an actual 5-7 days. Im getting real anxious. Need to get it back together and ride.

Eh, I would get the gasket if it was me...... I would not want to take the engine apart again it the RTV failed.

Evaluate the bond area, at there any thin spots?
and pay close attention to the area around the oil passage.
When it gets hot, this area can get up to 235°F so if you do, use the high temp stuff.
probably not extremely important as this gasket is the thinnist of the lot.
I'd use it if it looks like it will work for you.
Worst case? it leaks, loosen up the bolts, put her on TDC, loosen the cam chain, lift up the cylinder, clean and reapply the rtv or what ever.

Doesnt feel like an RTV kinda job to me. The stuff recommended for the head cover seems good, or maybe Permatex #2..? Anyone?

I got SUPER lucky. The dealership actually had one on hand. Usually if it isnt a bike, oil, or gear they dont have it. Someones lookin out for me.

This is good - do the job right with the right supplies, and your riding again.

And that someone stopped looking. Geuss what doesn't come included with the rear cam chain guide? the bolt that attaches it to the tensioner. Wheres my old guides? Well they WERE in the trash and then they WERE in a garbage truck, and NOW they're probably in a landfill. So...now what? I could get suitable bolt at the hardware store i beleive. Metric 10.9 or 12.9 Think that would do? Or am I waiting for a single freakin bolt? Cause I know dam well the dealership isnt going to have that freakin bolt.
