Title: High pitch whine when throttling back
Post by DesertDweller on 09/17/09 at 07:50:40

Hi all, just got my 2005 S 40
When closing the throttle and engine braking, the tranny makes this high pitch whining sound, is this normal with these bikes? Is there a cure?
Pulling the clutch gets rid of it.
thanks.

My 97 does the same thing.  In my case its the drive belt.  I just live with it.

If you want to see if its the belt or the tranny, you can get some wax & rub on the belt in a few places & if that changes it, theres your deal. You may be able to adjust the belt tension & make it better, but look carefully at the adjustments before you go playing, Where it is now may be the best you can get, so be able to get back to where it is.

belt squeel,... 99% certainty... double check that the front belt pulley nut is tight, other than that, it's normal, nothing to worry about.
If it bothers you, it can be stopped.
Do a search for a variety of cures...
