Title: My Girlie Bike!
Post by JohnBoy on 09/16/09 at 17:09:32

I like my Girlie bike!!!
It reminds me a lot of of the 1950's AJS singles. You know, the ones that set all those motorcycle world records!
Of course, it's only a Girlie bike...see, it's only 650cc! You know, like the Triumph Thunderbird that Marlon Brando rode to fame as the original Bad A$$.
And it's not made of plastic, and I don't have to pay some wrench 300.00 to sync the carbs.

I have had bigger bikes and faster bikes and more comfortable bikes, but none that was any more FUN! I can ride home through freeway traffic and still grin. And, it has been a long time since I had one this cheap to keep. Man, I like my “Girlie bike”!!!

Sums up the Savage experience pretty well, Id say.
Ive been looking at the thread titled
Selling Questions
& Ive been avoiding the temptation to go in there & say
The first selling question to deal with is "Why?", have to have a very serious reason. I only know of one. Health.

The Savage must be a "girlie" bike. My wife stole mine. I still sneak off and ride it some when she's at work. Don't tell her. [smiley=wink.gif]

Not that there is anything wrong with a pink bike.

Serowbot you are cracking me up. A lot of the V-Twin riders come up all the time and are astonished when they see that it's a single 650CC. Seems like they kind of respect that.

no i can't keep up with the 1000cc's crotch rockets, or do i rumble(or shake) like a harley BUT i can roll off the throttle in a tunnel and make everyone duck! i can do all my own work, i skid her down @ 50mph and just have a dent. i have exactly what i want because that's what the savage is to me, what i want. could i get a hyabusa and be like every overcompensating guy....sure but i don't have 13g's lol

btw i painted my headlight 2day, black with the silver lip....and i touched up the rear fender which still has the stock black paint with the flat and i like how nasty it looks. could i get a sportster and fall in line, of course but where's the fun in that!! plus i like riding more then i do tightening down bolts  :P

I've heard the "Girlie Bike" comment before too ... mostly from young, testosterone filled Crotch Rocket Ridin' types ... but since I've been on the planet twice as long as they have I just laugh it off and tell 'em that yeah, maybe so, but what odds? ("who cares" in Newfanese) ... better are the folk who ask if it's a 250 and when a say no it's a 650cc single, they jaw-drop in astonishment ... or the older guys who get wistful looks in their eyes and tell me it reminds 'em of the large Thumpers they Rode in their youth 8-)

Yeah, 8 years ago I thought it was gonna be my "starter bike."  (Even though I did have a Honda XL250 back in the 80s.)  But I truly do not know of a motorcycle I'd rather have than my Savage.  I knew it was going to be easy to work on too, but I've tackled more "high-degree-of-difficulty" projects than I ever thought I would, almost all successfully.  My bike still looks good enough to turn heads, and people like to stop and tell me about bikes they had back in the day. 8-)

Even though my Savage ended up being a "starter bike," and the person I bought it from said if I rode all the time it would be. I never got any feedback that it was a girlie bike. Many of the people that I hung around with were older HD riders and they either knew the Savage, or asked about it and then were very positive about a 650 single. I try to be equal oportunity, but I hope the rider in the pink Tu-Tu on the pink MC is female.

Yeah, I love the "Dang!  That's one big cylinder!" comments.

Well my girlie bike may not be "pink" per say however, she is the magenta red. I call it cranberry with a touch of pink. I love it and I get many comments on the color as well as the bike itself. I am a woman and purposely went for this color. I have a pink graphics helmet and at times I wear my pink sweatshirt with my chaps.. I am proud to be a woman on a so called girlie bike.

I thought of my Rebel as a starter bike and this a step up. So far no complaints other than the oil viewing window.. I miss the dipstick the Rebel had..

I've only had one person say anything bad about my Savage in that area.

But he's not my favorite person either. So who cares ;D

(I get lots of good things said though, like how easy they are to work on.
And how reliable they are!)

I've never had a single good comment from an HD rider. The closest was last year a few months after I got it. HD guy followed me a ways and probably thought Id be a good laugh so he whipped passed me on a no pass two lane as obnoxiously as he could with his girl on pillion. It was dumb to follow....but I did. And kept with him every bit of the way until we hit a red light. I don't remember how fast we ended up going but it was faster than the speed limit. 60 or 70 in a 45. At the light he yells "What the he11 is that?" I tell him and the light changes. He goes right I go straight. That was the "nicest" comment. The crappiest was an old fat bearded tatooed up biker looking guy(he was in a effin van) asked me what it was. I said "suzuki sa.." when he rolled his eyes and drove off...in his van.  The most common HD rider response is one of disinterst more than anything. "Oh yea. The Savage. Its alright I geuss."

Proper answer was 'is your harley in back or did you loose the trailer?'

Everyone that took a whip of my "girlie bike" and asked if it's a 250. And with my response "NO, IT'S 650", they had a disblief look on their face and walk away. I smiled and thought to myself that they either embarass being wrong or they knew what this "girlie bike" can do ;D

Grrr!,...  I hate when people think my bike is a 250!... >:(

One guy, misread the side plate and thought it was an 850!...
Broke my heart to tell him the truth... :-?

I always "mislead" them! It hurts way more to get smoked by a 250cc than a 650. Most HD riders are posers, and wouldn't know their own brand if they wern't wearing the tee shirt. A well tuned Honda Helix scooter Will take most HD's for the first 200 yards. When they catch up and ask what it is I tell them that it is a 185. If you wan't to really hurt their feelings find an old Suzuki X6 250!
