Title: Idle Speed Post by rl153 on 09/01/09 at 10:32:59 I turned up the idle on my bike ,it seems good but I don't have a tach .Does it matter if it's idling a little high ? Thanks |
Title: Re: Idle Speed Post by Serowbot on 09/01/09 at 10:56:05 a bit too high is better than too low... |
Title: Re: Idle Speed Post by Pabst 2006 on 09/01/09 at 19:00:09 From what I've gathered, this is my understanding. A fast enough idle speed (at least 1000 to 1100RPM, check your owner's manual) gets that oil pumping with enough pressure. You need that pressure to get the oil distributed around the engine's moving parts, and to keep everything lubricated. This is really important when you first start the bike, as the oil has all drained downward and you're getting metal-on-metal contact. Too high of an idle speed just uses more gas, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Moofed made some sort of post on here in the last few months, he analyzed people's YouTube videos of the Savage and computed an approximate idle RPM for each. Or you could just watch a few videos and get a general idea of how your bike should be idling. -Pabst |

Title: Re: Idle Speed Post by Digger on 12/07/09 at 21:32:14 I use an inexpensive diagnostic tach to check my idle speed now and again. I've got an ENM digital tach, Model PT15B2. This one: http://www.amickssuperstore.com/v/vspfiles/photos/ENM%20PT15B2%20Tachometer-1.jpg I've got the wire wrapped around the spark plug wire, with the free end tucked away. When I need to set the idle speed, I just hook the tach up to the wire and set the idle speed. When I'm done, I disconnect if from the wire and put the tach back in my drawer. Simple, cheap, unobtrusive. IHTH someone! |

watchutalkingabout willis? :-?[/quote] best rpm/chraging rate have an led type volt meter hooked up(showes under volts with a red then two yellow leds, then 2 green leds for charging, then 2 yellows and a red for over volt) also an induction type tach(wire wraps around the plug wire)with the loads i have (stereo amp and some led lighting)1130 rpm is the sweet spot for battery charging |
