Title: Fuel leak.....GRRRRRR
Post by Mattdw on 09/01/09 at 06:15:17

I was so proud getting all the lights and wiring finally working correctly on the bike.

Now another issue.
This morning, I was trying to start  the bike, and fuel just started pouring out of the overflow tube of the carb...

Hoping it's something simple

This is a 1996...bad float maybe?
How can you check the float itself?

sounds like your float is stuck and it needs a percussive adjustment.

take a plastic handled screwdriver and rap the side of the carb.

possibility of it being a vacuum line problem too?

I did a bunch of electrical work this weekend, had the tank off...had some wrestling matches getting it back on...maybe I banged the petcock one too many times and sent the diaphragm into a tailspin...

I'll check the vac line for fuel tonigh

Another possible issue could be dirt on the little needle that the float pushes up to stop the fuel flow.   Actually that should be the first thing to check.  The tapping of the carb normally can un-jam the dirt.

When checking for dirt particles, I would suggest taking the carb off the bike.  You could probably do it with the carb on, BUT.... the fabled black hole under the starter would suck up any of the tiny parts you drop accidentally.
