Title: She's ready to ride! Post by Midnightrider on 08/30/09 at 07:23:18 http://i356.photobucket.com/albums/oo2/mwshelton/100_0672.jpg After a month of rubbing and polishing and scrounging parts I've got er ready. I added the Supertrapp and the Flyscreen. This bike had set outside for 2 years uncovered, but she had only 4,700 on the clock and the guy had changed the oil in her. Thats why I bought her. I knew she would clean up nicely. |

Title: Re: She's ready to ride! Post by danibugg on 08/30/09 at 07:25:18 Pretty! Mine also withstood a fair amount of abuse, I wish I could get my aluminum covers looking as nice as yours! |
Title: Re: She's ready to ride! Post by justin_o_guy2 on 08/30/09 at 07:34:02 You put some elbow grease in that. Good results. Now you need a fork brace. Stock, it needs the brace. If you add power & start playing in turns, youll really feel a difference in the handling with a brace on it. |
Title: Re: She's ready to ride! Post by Midnightrider on 08/30/09 at 07:36:45 Justin who makes an aftermarket fork brace? |
Title: Re: She's ready to ride! Post by Toymaker on 08/30/09 at 07:38:32 Looking really good.... Tkat makes a good brace |

How do you clean galvanized parts like the spokes and the inside ring of the rear pulley? I tried and I cannot get them to look good. And by the way, I got the Dunlop K555 too on the the rear, it makes the bike look real PHAT from behind :) |
Title: Re: She's ready to ride! Post by Midnightrider on 08/30/09 at 08:14:32 I used Turtle Wax Chrome polish on my rims and a lot of elbow grease. The Turtle wax will not scratch the chrome. The spokes weren't that bad thank goodness. There's nothing I know of you can do to a galvanized spoke except replace them all with stainless steel which is expensive. If you start rubbing a galvanized spoke the galvanizing comes off and you really have problems then. On the engine cases I start with Semichrome polish followed by the Turtle Wax chrome polish and a lot of elbow grease. Polishing an engine case is a labor of love. |
Title: Re: She's ready to ride! Post by Mr. Hyde on 08/30/09 at 08:41:59 Rider - you did a great job, the bike looks really good. Superbrace also sells a nice fork brace but it's more expensive than the Tkat. |
Title: Re: She's ready to ride! Post by boofer on 08/30/09 at 21:22:20 Midnightrider, I would put that one on a chain and wear it around my neck. Much too purty to ride! Good job. Boofer |
Title: Re: She's ready to ride! Post by FreeSpirit on 08/30/09 at 21:36:23 Great looking bike!! You have the Suzuki Engine Guard on it dont you? Do you like it? |
Title: Re: She's ready to ride! Post by Midnightrider on 08/30/09 at 21:44:31 Free Spirit the engine guard was on the bike when I bought it. It looks like a Suzuki engine guard so I'm assuming it is. Thanks for the compliment. |

Title: Re: She's ready to ride! Post by speedingman on 08/31/09 at 22:47:10 The engine covers have a clear coat over them if you take that off those covers polish up all most chrome, I did it to mine cause they were scratched pretty bad, i used some aircraft remover, brushed it on, let it sit for about 5-10 minutes and spray water hose to rinse off. ( caution though, if you over spray with the hose immediatly rinse the part that may have splattered, so you dont take off any paint that you want to keep. I took me 2-3 coats of remover and the clearcoat was all gone, now i just use miguires HOT Wheels/rims paste and rub in like wax till turnes black then buff out, stuff works like a dream!! |
