Title: carb questions
Post by yumi on 08/28/09 at 06:17:36

I want to richen the fuel air mixture by exchanging the spacer on the needle jet to a thinner spacer. I've been told that a number 4 washer can be used and I found some in town; what outside diameter will I need?

Also, before I dig into my carb for the first time is there anything I might encounter or should look out for? Any tools I should gather other than a 10mm wrench and socket, screwdrivers, and needle nose pliers?

You really need the basic stuff.  I highly recommend a hand held impact driver to get the screws off the top of the carb.  I got one at harbor fright for about $5 and it really made the job much easier. I also did not take the carb off, I have seen where many did it that way, but I figured the less I took off the less I had to put back.

#4 washers are the standard, but when I bought mine they would not fit.  I ended up taking the spacer to town and gtting something that matched up, I believe it was a #4 nylon.  There was a discussion about the inconsistentcies of standard sizes somewhere.

Thanks precher. Does anyone have any extra spacers that will fit/know anywhere online that I can get them? Can't find any in town or online (in quantities less than 5000).

The washers have to fit into the little hole down inside the slide.

I found that the little washer I took out of a dead computer worked great.   Metric I guess......  :-?
