Title: Need help with carb tuning
Post by littlefights on 08/25/09 at 14:00:51

So I got the new muffler installed (previous post http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?num=1250720204) and finally got some dry weather.  Its definitely got some more power now that I've gotten used to the new, louder muffler.  I've done the WOT test several times, both on flat ground and up a pretty good hill - no surge.

But I'm noticing that it seems fairly weaker in 1st gear and a bit weaker in 2nd.  Its not pulling off the line like it did before.  It also feels like its surging noticeably when shifting up into 2nd, and little less when shifting up into 3rd.  Is this from the carb or from my riding habits?  I really don't remember it being pronounced before the muffler swap.

Serowbot suggested going up to a #50 or #52 pilot and moving the needle jet clip up one setting.  Does that still sound right?

Thanks for the help.

if it's idling ok and doesn't have a howitser blast on shut down, most likely doesn't need a change in pilot jet.

sluggest take off could be white spacer/ needle jet notch or main jet.

move the needle up a notch and see how it goes.
