my 95 savage seems to hit the reserve tank when i still have a half a tank left. could it be a clogged fuel filter or something slse? thanks to anybody with any help.

Could be a weak petcock.
Had this problem with my '96
rode on for 2 yrs until the diaphram started leaking
replaced it with a '02 and it worked fine after that

Try replacing the vac line, make sure to clamp the ends, cable ties are said to be enough.

Yes, it could also be a clogged filter screen.  Drain the tank, remove the petcock, and check to see if the filter screen is mostly white or if its rusty looking.  White: good, rusty: bad.  And if it's rusty, the rust came from inside your tank and will continue to be a problem till you make the tank clean inside.  Some say to etch and re-silver, Srinath says there's a product he has used that worked.
