Title: 140/90 tire does not fit ?
Post by srinath on 08/03/09 at 07:18:33

I recently put on a kenda challenger rear in a 140/90 size. It fits the rim etc just fine, but its hitting the fender, more specifically the sissy bar bolt heads. Anyone else have this problem ? And -
Are my shocks too flaccid for letting it get far enough to hit the thing ?
Cool.
Srinath.

I put a 140/90 and rode two up  with the second stiffest and the stiffest settings and nooo problem. I put on a d404 dunlop. I heard that Kendas ar Garbo.

I am not a big fan of kenda's either ... but the 100/90-21 front tar only kenda was available. I matched it with the rear as well ...
Left to me, on a stock savage I'd run a chengshin himax front and a marquis rear. No 21 in the himax ... so had to go kenda.
Anyway I will stiffen up the shock and see what that does. Or maybe put a taller shock on ... or something.
Cool.

I believe I remember (not sure you should trust my beliefs or my memories) that the recommended fix is carriage bolts.

Oooh ... the flat head ones ... how would you get a wrench on em ...

I was thinking of tossing the sissy bar ...
Cool.

I have the Pirelli 140/90 installed and I do not have any issues with rubbing the fender or bolts.

No problem on my bike with the Pirelli MT66 Route 140/90-15.

Cheng Shin
CS Marquis 140/90 15
No issues.

My bike is rigid now and rides about 1/2 lower than it did with the shocks set on the hardest setting. I'm about to go 150/90 15.

Carriage bolts have a square shoulder under the head. File the hole to match and put them on from the inside out then use chrome or stainless acorn nuts on the outside.

Well this could be a non issue soon ... my friend and I swapped the chopper front and read with the 2000's front and rear ... so the 2000 bike is now my chopper ... wider bars due to extra cable length. The shortie bars and shortie cables on the factory drag bar equipped 87 have stock front end and old 140/80 original tire and my new russian tire.
The choipper is also becoming a bobber with a bikini fender so its prolly never gonna hit anything.
Cool.

i have a 140/90 kenda challenger on - had no problems - BUT my '07 doesn't have a sissy bar- don't know what bolt heads you're having trouble with

Pretty much the sissy bar bolts
I will set the shock stiffer and see what that does.
Cool.
