Title: New Batt for the FireLizard
Post by Yonuh Adisi on 08/02/09 at 21:14:11

Well, I just installed a new battery in the FireLizard. Still don't have the shoes for my front brake, but I needed to get the FireLizard running again. I can ride it without the front brake though I would rather not, but as I said, I needed it running again.

Ive seen plenty of bikes with no front brake. I wouldnt want to ride that way, but I would if I had to. be careful.

Back when I was in high school most of the Cushman scooters didn't come equipped with a front brake, and the front brake was an optional accessory on the Eagle. Most American bicycles didn't have one, either, being equipped with a coaster brake. So there is a lot of precedent for riding with a rear brake only. If you are in the habit as many motorcyclists are of using the rear brake only, you will probably be OK. If you habitually use the front brake, I would most definitely NOT recommend riding without it.

I am actually pretty adaptable. When I have both brakes working properly I usually use both brakes equally. I have ridden without front brakes before and I have also ridden with back brake only.

Well...the front tire has about 70% of the available traction and the rear about 30% when braking hard due to the transfer of weight forward.  Of course, if the rear skids you might go down lowside.  If the rear skids, you release the rear brake, and it regains traction, you might take a flight highside.

Well, I finally found a source for my brake shoes for my mini drum front wheel. 21bux at my local Kawa dealer. Unfortunately the outfit that makes them is out of business, so as soon as I can I will be getting as many sets as I can so I will be set for a good long while.

I tried the Honda dealer and they couldn't match it up.

Well, the shoes I had acquired for the FireLizard didn't exactly fit out of the package, but I modded them a bit and now they work perfectly.  ;) ;)
