Title: Horn relay?? Post by drharveys on 07/22/09 at 19:39:51 Do our bikes have a horn relay? I'm planning on upgrading the horn, and I'd like to know if I'll have to wire in a relay, or if it would just be duplication. |
Title: Re: Horn relay?? Post by Boule’tard on 07/22/09 at 19:59:52 It will need one, the only relays on the wiring diagam are for the turn signals and (for some reason) sidestand switch. I bought a "132 Db Highway Blaster" which will draw several times the current of the stock horn. So I bought this relay from Autozone, the "Pilot 30A 12V" relay that hooks up with blade connectors. Only about $5. I haven't installed it yet, but it should work fine. |
Title: Re: Horn relay?? Post by vhfkid on 07/23/09 at 13:08:05 I put a 125dB horn on with the spade lugs provided and No relay. Haven't had a problem yet, the wire size and contact size appear to handle what little the horn I have uses. Even checked the contacts on the wifes S40 and nothing was pitted. Here's a pic from Jon's website http://www.jonline.org/savage/Tips___How-to_s/Tips___Tricks/tips___tricks.html Scroll down a bit to see the horn, I got the same thing at Autozone for $20, one of the notes (low or high, I don't remember) didn't fit right. The other was perfect. It just barely touches a turn signal, but you can change that very easily. VHFKID |
