Title: New to Savages... few questions!
Post by lithdoc on 07/21/09 at 19:18:49

So I recently discovered this wonderful bike. I have a few questions about them...

First of all, I'm 6'3" - the bike feels alright, but my legs don't feel too comfortable on it. I was wondering what adjustments and modifications you guys do to make it better for taller people.

Second thing is exhaust. There is some unpleasant sound coming from it - there is some sort of high pitch sound coming out of the muffler when revved up. Seems like there is something loose inside. I'll try taking it off, and see if I can take it out, see if something will fall out. However, I read here that it is possible to slip on some sort of HD Dyna muffler. I looked on ebay, but there are so many different types - what exact type are you guys talking about?

Thanks!

Seat mod: Raising the front of the seat about an inch or so using spacers.

Forward Controls: Make your own, buy from Ed. L. (A member of this site check the market place section), or pay 300 plus for some from places like seeger cycles.

The Harley mufflers will have to be answered by someone else.

Thanks! Found the thread on forward controls - they look like a must for me!

Now, any muffler suggestions?

A Dyna or a Sporty muffler is the usual suggestion, just be sure you get on without the crossover port.

Thanks for the reply.

I have looked for Dyna on ebay - they have a lot of different types, and I know nothing about any of them. Could you please post a link to a type of muffler that I could fit on the savage? Thanks!

These type should work.

What ever you do, avoid anything being sold by FlightSimShop or his alias Kwikbay.

Thanks!

I saw elsewhere mentions of some sort of a clamp - what is it exactly?

Just a typical Harley exhaust clamp I believe.

an automotive muffler clamp works just aswell but isnt pretty. 1 3/4" c clamp i think. Maybe 1 1/2". I dont remember. The inner diameter of the harley muffler is going to be slightly larger than the outer diameter of the head pipe. Slice up an aluminum can to fill the space between the two along with some high temp silicone sealant.

PS - Try to find a muffler with a rail type mount. it will be easier to mount to the muffler support braket.

I'm ready to buy a H-D muffler.  If anyone wants to split a pair offered on eBay, I'll share the cost.  PM me if interested.
