Title: running rough at steady speed
Post by PaulB on 07/14/09 at 13:57:42

My new 07 with 3000 miles on it normally runs smooth like an electric motor - no surging, no burbling, no roughness at all -  at steady throttle, just a nice even exhaust tone and smooth power. Yesterday it started surging a little, and the exhaust note wavered some.  It seemed to me like it might be a bad batch of gas, or dirt in the float, but the first thing I did was to tightened everything I could think of - carburator boot, engine mounts, all connections on the exhaust, and all I found was that the exhaust flange nuts at the cylinder head were 1/4 to 1/2 turn loose. I have not ridden it except once down the street since then so I do not know if the problen is gone, but could that explain the problem I was having?

thank you,

Paul

In a wurd,  ermm, Nope..

That said, your original idea on the gas may have been spot on. I'd run it & see if the problem changes.

More likely an ounce of seafoam will steady her out.

And check the vac lines; for gas, for cracks, loose fitting ends. etc.

Mine started doing that pretty early on. I pulled the tank and found the factory installed spark plug had become quite loose.
