Title: Savage too small for me? Post by bacon1 on 07/01/09 at 14:47:58 I'm 6'2 215lbs and I'm wondering if a savage would be too small for me. I was thinking of buying a used one and turning it into a bobber. Also can you run 70mph on these things without it vibrating like crazy or screaming at high rpms? |
Title: Re: Savage too small for me? Post by serowbot on 07/01/09 at 14:54:42 There's a lot of guys here your size,... but it cruises better at 60mph... And there's a lot of guys here who will say it's great at 70 too.... The real question is,... do you really want to cruise at 70 on a bobber?... It'll do it all day, but I wouldn't want too. |

Post by verslagen1 on 07/01/09 at 14:58:27 6' 240# myself You'll need to make the seat and the handlebars fit you, just about everyone does and forward footpegs sometimes. I like the stock footpeg, HD seat with a set of low rise handlebars on high risers best. If you want to stay with the stock seat, then forward footpegs will be nice. I do a 1/2 hour daily commute and I'm over 70 most of the time. |
Title: Re: Savage too small for me? Post by Yonuh Adisi on 07/01/09 at 16:05:05 6' and 250+ myself and have no problems, but then I made some homemade forward controls. And yes, it will do 70+ rather well. |
Title: Re: Savage too small for me? Post by Ed L. on 07/01/09 at 16:13:26 Raising the front of the seat by a good inch is the best bang for the buck for comfort. I changed out the buckhorns on my '02 and put on a clubman, sportster type, didn't like the hand posistion of the stock bars. A carb rejet and a different muffler will get the bike running over 70 mph with ease. A savage is a light bike but can cruise on the superslab all day if needed. Luck with the bob |
Title: Re: Savage too small for me? Post by clueless on 07/01/09 at 17:59:37 6' 235...........Forward controls via Ed_L, convert to a chain drive(pick and choose your ratio), white spacer mod, dump the 50lb stock muffler and rejet. Oh yes, fix the seat. I did the above. Can cruise 70-75 all day. I did more than all that but the rest was cosmetic. You know, dumping the sidecovers, repaint, clubman bars, etc. Have fun! |
Title: Re: Savage too small for me? Post by clueless on 07/01/09 at 18:00:54 Glad to know I'm not alone in being "plus" sized. ;D ;D ;D |
Title: Re: Savage too small for me? Post by bill67 on 07/01/09 at 18:08:28 5 6 160 perfect size, didn't have to raise front of seat. Seat OK with aftermarket shocks |
Title: Re: Savage too small for me? Post by BurnPgh on 07/01/09 at 21:48:02 You'll hate the seat and the shocks. Forward controls are very nice but not entirely necessary. I found on my bike that between 60-65 the vibration was rather bad but past that it seemed to smooth out. It will do 70 all day but you wont unless you mod or change out the seat. |
Title: Re: Savage too small for me? Post by Rocco on 07/02/09 at 00:56:38 i second the 5'6" 165 !! i think she fits me perfect!! my dad is 6'1" and he looked slightly cramped, but new pegs would help him out |
Title: Re: Savage too small for me? Post by David M Smith on 07/02/09 at 06:28:11 6'5" and 210-220lb. Fits me a little small but I like being able to manhandle it. I could use larger pegs since I have large feet/shoes and it'd be nice to have a seat adjustment but otherwise I couldn't ask for a better small cruiser. |

Title: Re: Savage too small for me? Post by bacon1 on 07/02/09 at 15:57:40 Hopefully I won't look like a monkey *&#$ing a football riding it:) Here's some photo's of my last project. I chaned the apes out for 4" risers and drag bars. I just finished it and some guy screwed up on Methadone ran me off the road and totalled it. Luckily I was ok. The bike is a 650 Vstar, did everything myself, didn't have the springs under the seat on this picture and finished up a few other things after the pics were taken. Looks like I have some reading to do around here so I know what all mods I'll need to do! http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/6180/19911103284.jpg http://img356.imageshack.us/img356/7017/19911103050.jpg http://img381.imageshack.us/img381/673/19911103020.jpg |

No, you'll only look like that if you were riding a crotch rocket. Nice job on the V-Star, you should do amazing on the Savage. |

Title: Re: Savage too small for me? Post by yumi on 07/02/09 at 17:53:04 phew.. five foot? three inches less of me and i couldn't reach the ground, boots included |

Does the stock muffler really weigh 50lbs? If so,how much do the other type mufflers weigh that you guys use? |

Title: Re: Savage too small for me? Post by serowbot on 07/04/09 at 19:09:07 I think the stock muffler is about 12 or 14lb..... a sportster is 5 or 6... half.. |
Title: Re: Savage too small for me? Post by ChicagoRider on 07/04/09 at 19:46:46 I'm 6'2" 180lbs, you'll need a mod to make the s40 comfortable for you. Here's a seat mod I made which allows me to stretch out my legs: http://tightwadweb.com/seatmod.html |
Title: Re: Savage too small for me? Post by CPaq on 07/04/09 at 23:05:09 If anyone looks like a monkey on a football it's gotta be me on my new savage. I'm 6'7" 180lbs. I raised the front of the seat up a bit and that helped a lot. New 10" z bars on the way. Should fit nice. |
Title: Re: Savage too small for me? Post by BurnPgh on 07/04/09 at 23:52:44 6'7"!? darn. Watch out for a little guy with a slingshot. |
