Title: New Rider.....First Bike!
Post by SavageSweetie on 06/29/09 at 20:26:32

Hi all,

I was brousing the web and ran across this Forum.  I am new, very new to riding.  My experience is limited to sitting behind my hubby on his V-Star 1100.  Well, now I have my own bike and am very anxious to learn!  We are actually a 4 bike family now.  Hubby has a V-Star 1100, oldest son(17) has a Honda Interceptor, and youngest son (16) has a Kawasaki Eliminator.  So we own one of each of the Import Brands! ;D

I got my Savage last night and it does need some work.....starter, battery, and ignition and some cosmetic stuff.  I do plan on airbrushing the tank myself though.  The guy we bought it from said with a battery it will push start though.  But for $300 I guess I can spend a little on fixing it up! ;D

Just wanted to pop in and say hello and that I am excited to lear from all you guys out there!

Vickie

Welcome. You have found the right site if you are working on the Savage yourself. Keep us posted on how your repairs are going. If you have issues, I bet it's covers in the tech section.

Hi Vickie, Welcome to the gang. Just a note - I doubt very much if you can bump/push start a Savage unless you can manually open the decompression valve. I weigh 220 and I couldn't bump mine even though I had a good hill to run down. But don't lose heart, everything you need to know about the Savage in right here. If you have a problem, just ask.

Bump starting for the old and gimpy...
Prep like normal prime would be a good idea
Put in 1st
Kickstand up
Push like hell
Jump on
Push starter button
After 1rev let out clutch
It will chug until the battery recovers
Just keep rolling in 1st till it catches or stops

Should note that the battery should be good enough to turn the starter.
If it won't do that it won't work

Welcome to the forum SavageSweetie :)

I am a brand new rider and the Savage is my very first bike. I've been hanging out on this forum for a few days now and people are great. I already learned so much!

Enjoy  8-)

Thanks for the warm welcome.  The bike is headed for the repair shop on Thursday!  Hopefully it will be ready in a week or so.  I will get some pics and post for ya.  I really want to airbrush a dragonfly on the tank so I will be practicing but pretty confident I can do it!  I grew up in an "artsy crafty" family.  The first thing I want is a 6 pack rack (If I can find one that I like) on it and floor boards!  I want to girlie it up a little with some chrome......make it bling!  I actually think I am more excited about fixing it up than I am about riding it!  I have never ridden before so am a little intimidated but I want to learn!

Be careful when you start modifying. It can get addictive  ;) ;)

The FireLizard is proof.

Day after I bought it from a pawn shop
