Title: How do you use Sea Foam?
Post by seb481 on 06/29/09 at 10:28:22

I couple guys on the forum recommended I use Sea Foam to clean up my bike a little bit.

I'm confused by the instructions.

I understand that I should use no more than 1oz per gallon. So should I fill up the tank and add about 2.5oz?

It also recommends adding Sea Foam into fuel line or air intake system. What are these??? Where are they located?

I am just about to change the oil. Should I add some SeaFoam with the fresh new oil???

So many questions...

Thanks for your help

Hey Seb481!

By typing "sea foam" in the search engine window in the forum's upper right hand corner( under our logo) I found, among others, this thread:

Hope this helps! ;)

I wouldn't put it in the oil. Just in the feul system.

Agree, don't mess with the oil. Myself, I dump some techron in the gas every few months. That is all.

I would agree...I've had great success in the fuel, but never tried it in the oil.

The amount: If you don't have any major problems, use a cap-full or so every other tank.

If you have trouble keeping the bike running for more than a few seconds, you can run SeaFoam straight into the carb.  I had to do that with my Marauder, and by draining the gas out of the tank I ran it 100% strength.  Got it running beautifully after just a few minutes.

You can take off the fuel bowl and put it in there put fuel bowl back on and run it.

I find myself with a similar question. Would it be good to add a cap full of Sea Foam a day or two before changing the oil?

Also...

Has anyone here added any amount of Sea Foam to their oil before or after changing the oil?

seb481, I apologize in advance if I end up hijacking your thread.

NO!

Any of these solvent crankcase cleaners could be added just before the oil is drained...idle for 15 minutes in a car, maybe 5 minutes in a bike.  Actually, they do little good.  They thin the oil so less of it sticks to the engine's internal surfaces so the drain is a slight bit more complete.  If there is any real glop inside the engine the risk is that the solvent will loosen the goop which then goes down to plug the oil pump inlet.

You never want to run with this thinned oil.  If it thins the oil too much the engine doesn't have the protection it needs.

I wouldn't add it to new oil,But a couple caps a day or two before you change oil is ok.

I would not add it to the oil under any circumstances....I don't know what it would do to the clutch.

As for the fuel, before filling up, add an ounce or two to the tank.  Then, fill up with gasoline.  The Sea Foam will then be mixed really good with the gas while you are adding the gas.

It is also important to Have Faith that it will do anything useful. If you Google "seafoam msds" you will be able to find out what is actually in it. You will then discover there isn't very much there. I am not saying it doesn't work, but the ingredient list isn't very inspiring and I can't see how it will do anything useful.
