Title: turn sigs Post by runwyrlph on 06/27/09 at 21:04:43 hey guys my rear sigs wouldn't pass inspection b/c of the electrical tape holding them together - so decided to replace with (much cheaper than suzuki) aftermarket . problem: - these have a bolt on mount that doesn't match the size of stock holes... need to find a way to make it fit! somebody else (d-jim?) did this by fab'ing a bracket, but i wanted to try to use the same holes as you can see totally different http://i801.photobucket.com/albums/yy299/madcap_bucket/100_1274.jpg after market is 3/8" on outside, stock mounting hole is 5/8" on inside. to make it fit - got a bushing at the hardware store for a buck or two. the closest they had was 1/2" ID , 5/8 OD, but a few wraps of tape around the stem of the aftermarket sig made it fit snugly. http://i801.photobucket.com/albums/yy299/madcap_bucket/100_1277.jpg the bushing was 1" long, perfect to make two adapters when sawed in half ... http://i801.photobucket.com/albums/yy299/madcap_bucket/100_1279.jpg bushing fits snugly over the tape wrapped stem... http://i801.photobucket.com/albums/yy299/madcap_bucket/100_1280.jpg tighten down the mounting nut to hold it all together... http://i801.photobucket.com/albums/yy299/madcap_bucket/100_1281.jpg the stock sig mounts with a screw into the stud, i'm just going to tighten against the outside of the bushing. used a tap to thread this hole ( i think it was 5/16 - 24) then got the appropriate bolts to fit http://i801.photobucket.com/albums/yy299/madcap_bucket/100_1282.jpg I guess i forgot to take a pic of the finished product :( Also I went back and changed a few things... mainly I used a 5/16 bit to drill partway through the bushing where the bolt tightens down - just made a dimple for the bolt to dig into. also added blue loktite ;) btw here's a pic of me on the bike ;D http://i801.photobucket.com/albums/yy299/madcap_bucket/9780060000578.jpg now you know my name! ;) |
