Title: ......Thigh pain when rider for more than one hour
Post by Gideon1986 on 06/27/09 at 05:12:18

So I have put 1000mi on my bike since getting it used. I ride it whenever I can to work (60mi- one way). I have noticed that my inner thigh muscles fetl some pain everytime I ride it that long. I could ignore it and it disappears shortly after the ride. Does anyone experience this? I am 5'6" and it should not be a problem since the bike is small, right?

What can I do- as far as accessories and/or mods.... thanks  :-[

I don't get thigh pain but I get upper leg and hip pain and lower back pain (only on the S40, not on my 125r).

Do you have a windshield? I reinstalled my windwhield and as a result can sit up straight while on the highway, not much back pain except for bumpy roads, and zero leg/hip pain, but now my head feels like one of those bobblehead toys...  ;D

It is actually my inner thigh that aches. I do feel like I have to fight the wind when I go 65mph. Sometimes my leather jacket feels like a parachaute LOL. So you think a windshield would help? I kinda do not like the look, but it does make sense. Any particular one to look out for? Are the Ebay ones okay?

You could try putting your heels on the pegs a differenced angle might help,or your toes on them or change up.

The pain results because of the sitting position caused by the forward controls. Balance is also affected by them, Most bikes have normal location for controls with additional forward controls for stretching out on long rides. Gene

Inner thighs seems more like you're bracing your knees against the tank too much.
I find myself doing that from time to time.
Kinda subconscious. You just have to force your knees away from the tank for a while then your body will get used to it and start to relax.
Try that.
Maybe once and a while move them to the back pegs.

That's the way I ride my bike most of the time. Heels are on top of the pegs.

Sounds like seating position more than anything else. You can raise the front of your seat for less than five dollars. Give it a try and if it woesn't help you can put it back in 15 minutes. There are lots of post showing you how.

Sometimes I do 8 hours a day on the bike and nothing hurts,
just my back/neck a little sometimes, the savage is a VERY
comfortable bike.  Any old football injuries?

Maybe your handlebar angle is affecting your ridding position.

Get highway bars/pegs, that should fix it! ...and maybe a gel seat

Good luck

I have to agree with Beatduck, sounds like you are squeezing the tank with your knees too much straining the thigh muscles. Try relaxing your knees away from the tank.

I'm with the sore inner thighs equals squeezing legs, and would second the front seat raise as a quick and easy modification: although,  At 5'6", do you have trouble reaching the foot controls?  What kind of hahndle bars do you have?

Lotsa' good advice being given here.
I hate windshields,... don't like the look, and I'm particularly sensitive to the head buffeting (read, giant head)....
Do you have buckhorn or drag bars?...
When I had the buckhorns I got groiny/thigh cramps from holding my body upright at speed.  I switched to drag bars to give myself a bit of forward lean.  Much better.  You might consider that, or if you have stock drag bars, some people have reversed the riser or switched to a straight riser instead of the bent one.  You can make risers cheaply out of BMX bicycle footpegs like mine.
The seat lift is a good thing to do too.

I can reach the foot controls without any problems. I might consider relaxing while riding, I might be squeezing the tank with my thighs unconsciously.

I do not have any back or butt complaints with the ride so far (and I have a bad back). So that is a plus.

Before I invest on accessorizing (highway pegs), I will try the "relaxing of thigh." one. Thanks for the great contributions/comments....  :D

Try letting the wind blow your knees out/back. Ive found myself squeezing the tank running thru corners & used that to relax afterward.
