Title: Question
Post by LawDawg77 on 06/20/09 at 12:58:22

I have a 01 Savage. Last week the throttle jammed on me, I fixed it no problem.Cranked up great but felt like it was missing a bit. The next day I went to crank it up, the electric starter cranks but won't catch.. Full tank of gas, petcock is on, bike in neutral, clutch pulled in.. Battery fully charged, carb getting gas, brand new spark plug... spark plug not sparking on spark test... any ideas of what may be wrong.. I have wrenched on this thing all morning..   :P

 All ideas appreciated...

Sounds like a starter gear broke.

Well, I don't believe it.. after I put it back together it cranked right up..  :o   I'm confused but maybe I just didn't see the spark light up in the bright sunlight. The old spark plug (which isn't that old, a month or so) was fouled.. I noticed it was also only finger tight.. don't know if that had anything to do with the fouling or not..  Also I'm female.. might have something to do with it... LOL!!

Also, which gas is best? I have been putting in 93 octaine.. is that ok?

Just run regular 86/87.The higher octane actually burns slower, and cooler. That's mainly for higher compression engines.

Thanks Demin!! Also in reference to my bike not starting... I left my fuel petcock in PRI, me being a nOOb, thought it ment Primary...not prime!! My spark plug was fouled because of it... The sun was too bright outside for me to see the spark of the new plug.  Petcock is now on On position.. oil is changed just for precautions and it's purring like a kitten.. I'm such a newbie..   ;D
