It doesn't take long to kill the battery.  I left mine on at work and battery wouldn't start the bike.

You're going to have to charge it.  Use your key to remove the battery cover, then the few screws behind that to remove the panel behind.  Take off your seat (10mm screws on each side) makes it easier, but disconnect the negative and positive terminals.  Slide the battery out, and give it a charge overnight.

Reverse the steps, and she should fire right up.

Check the water while you have it out,It can be done with out removing the seat.Remove the left cover and you can get to the bolt.

push-start - get it rolling and pop the clutch in second or first gear - watch out for the jump to make sure you don't drive into parked cars.  But even if you can get it going now, the battery is probably crippled long-term.

And always remove the key with lights off.

I did about the same thing once, that was enough.  I took the battery out, checked the water and charged it.  It has been fine since.  Maybe you will get lucky.

Using a turkey baster or booger bulb, add distilled water to between the two blue lines in your battery. Charge at 2 amps overnight, or until fully charged. Pop the battery back in and you should be good. You could have the batter tested at any parts store or moto shop to make sure it can still take a charge. You should be ok. I did killed my battery once because I left on park and removed the key lol

I have to charge my battery too.  Do I have to take the seat completely off?  That allen wrench bolt, behind the backrest is real hard to get out.  I can't even turn it.

I'll re-read this post, but I have to remove the battery as well?

Thanks for your help in advance.

To charge you don't have to remove the battery,Take off the tool kit cover and tools ,put the positive on and ground to the motor fins.

:) Thanks, Bill, I appreciate your response.  What are the motor fins?  Sorry to be so unknowledgable about my motorcycle, but I guess by  unscrewing this and that is sure a way to learn.  Pictures would be nice but I haven't found any yet on google.

The kit I got came with two ways of hooking up the charger. One is just clamps and the other is rings that you screw under the battery posts. I have it mounted right now just because it is easier and I'm always testing different things on the bike so I like the battery keep charging.

It looks pretty much like this. You can see both the clamps and the rings I was talking about.

ok, let me see if I got this right.  I put the red jumper cable on the battery cable which is on the right side where the tool case is.  then i connect the black battery cable to the ground black motor fin on the motorcycle.  then I plug in the batter charger.   is that right?  I don't want to blow up the house.

p.s.  those round coils didn't come with my battery charger

I don't think you'll get a very good ground on the cooling fins if they are black. Pretty much anything that is metal will work. Any exposed bolts or nuts. The main ground that goes to the battery is right under the shift lever on the right side. Even the muffler would work. I've never had anything bad happen from hooking it right to the neg side of the battery. It is low and slow voltage so it shouldn't harm anything.

I understand better now, thanks.  I try it in the morning.  If that doesn't work I'll take the bike and run down the street as fast as this 50 y/o can and pop the clutch and see if it starts.

One of us is gonna win and I think it will be me ;)

If you do have to push start it make sure you are in at least 3rd gear. These things can be a beast to push start.

Limit the battery charging rate to about 2 amps or less for these little batteries.  Recharging a battery too fast shortens its life.

If you install a permanent trickle charger connection like the one in the Battery Tender photo, you might run the wires out the left side away from the hot muffler...or be sure to keep the charger's cord away from the hot parts on the right.

I think that it might be time to replace my 3 yo battery. It might have a bad cell. I charged it overnight at 4amps, put it back, started the bike okay. Bike died on me and battery bad again.

I heard that if you drain it completely, the battery could be no good....

I guess, I will just have to stop by Walmart to get a new battery for my bike.

:(  :(

UPDATE: Miracle.... the bike started this PM... will keep the new battery just in case.... it was around $45.... thanks for the many responses.... very realiable people here  :D  :D  :D

You can ground it on just about anything on the bike, most of the frame is ground :)

This is why you should always live at the top of a hill.

I can think of a second advantage to that, that applies here in the Northwest: when the creek floods, you might stay dry!  That is if the whole hill doesn't slide into the river in a muddy mess. :P
