Took the lady's Savage in for service this week and asked them to find an option for putting on a white wall rear tire on the bike- they claim they can't find one or one isn't made that fits the Savage. I don't believe them.

Anyone had any success finding a white wall rear for these bikes? With the plan we have for the bike the white wall tire will be a key element of the look.. We really appreciate the forum and any help members can provide! Thanks!

MAXXIS used to have one that I ran for a season or 2. Still have the front on but went back to the Dunlop K555 for longevity. Max

Maxxis is the only one I know for sure,but they quit making bike tires.But I heard that Cheng Shin bought the motorcycle tire section of the company.Also maybe Avon.
Also,I think they couldn't find it because it might not be made in a 140.Mine is a 150

Thanks you guys great information here. Will there be any issue with running the 150 mm width on the stock rear end?

If not I'll pass along that info and see if the shop can find us what we need. The tire pictured above would be perfect.

Just in case.Change the bolts inside the fender with buttonheads.

Consider paint too. There's a few companies that make rubber compound paint for tire walls.

I've used 2 different kinds of whitewall tire paint in the past, and was sorry I did. I followed the instructions exactly, and it looks good for a while, but it doesn't last. First, the whitwall paint cannot flex at the same rate as the tire, resulting in the whitewall 'checking', similar to the look of a dried stream bed in the desert. Also, the whitewall paint stains easily and washing it with whitewall tire cleaner removes the paint. Using soap will remove less of the paint, but very little of the stains. Also, it yellows with age. Then what you are left with is trying to remove whats left of the ugly whitewall paint, which is a mess to do and time consuming. At the time I lived near one of the whitewall paint manufacturers, so I sawed a good sized piece of sidewall off a tire, prepared and painted it with the whitewall tire paint, and visited the factory. I asked to see the VP of marketing, and showed him the sidewall. I flexed the sidewall in front of his face and let him watch his paint 'check' and crack. Then I spit on it and rubbed it hard with my thumb, and showed him the whitewall paint that had come off on my thumb. He looked at me and said, "So? What do you want me to do about it?" I tossed the sidewall piece on his desk and told him to stick it up his as$ and see if it fits, and walked out. I suggest you think twice before painting this stuff on your tires.

Take Gort's word for it. I didn't, and insisted on learning the hard way (as I often do). It peeled off 1st time out, (looked like crap), and ultimately I found a set of Maxxis 6011's on ebay. I usually see them on there, however the leftover stock does seem to be drying up. I love my white walls and hope these last till someone else produces one for us.

Several manufacturers (Dunlap, Bridgestone, etc...) make the 150 in white wall. Just check your search engine for motorcycle tires... other than that, follow what was said by those that ran/run oversized tires for issues/suggestions.

Dunlop makes a 404 in 190/50-15 in white wall. Part number 32NM-50

If you are asking me this question, before I would put it on good tires, I would saw a piece of sidewall off a junk tire and apply the paint as directed. When it has dried according to the manufacturer's specs, then test it. Flex the sidewall piece the same as you would expect a tire sidewall to flex. Do it repeatedly and see if the paint starts to crack or check. Then wash it with whitewall tire cleaner. See if the paint starts to come off. In my case it came off more and more. always leaving some whitewall paint on the tire, making the whole whitewall effect thin and un-even. Put a greasy finger on it and try to wash the dirt off, and see whats left. Better to test it than to go through the nightmare of trying to remove every bit of it on your mounted bike tires.

PS: I just looked up Ranger whitewall paint on the net and there are pro and con reports about it. Seems most people only use it for raised lettering. But who knows, maybe they finally invented a decent product. In any case I would test the heck out of it before I'd put it on good tires.
