Who designed these tanks anyway? Houdini?

1) Getting the vacuum line off the carb is a royal PITA.
2) Scrapped the hell out of the frame with the petcock. I really hope the damage is just superficial. Is there a super secret way to get the tank off without doing that?

Time to repair the frame. I always loved the look of a bike covered in primer. :-/
Does it matter what type of black paint I use to cover up my mistake?

I think I'm just going to leave the primer. I'll probably scrap that off getting the tank back on. >:(

I wrapped a little black tape around the "spot".

When you take it off, lift up and to the left while pulling back. Put something slick back on the rubber pads before putting it back on. I even glued my rubber pads to the posts, that worked out great.

That was till I cut them off for my retarded new gas tank that has been taking WAY too long.

Replace your petcock with the Raptor petcock. Tank comes off much easier than before. I too was buggering up the frame everytime I took the tank off; and as much as the tank has to come off for this bike, the Raptor would have been worth it for that alone.

I slap my tank to the side to get it clear of the petcock & I still scrape my frame. I suffer from a severe case of attitudinal constipation, tho, & find myself unable to actually give a big crap about it. Its no biggee..

You wont like my advise, but I just did this for mine..... drain the tank with a siphon and the petcock to prime (saves a tone of time). Once the tank is drained, only two screws later the petcock is a non issue. Continue to get frustrated at the short wires >:(, and finally get the tank off. :)

My tank will not come off without removal of the petcock. I am considering the raptor, but not fully sure it will solve that issue with the clearance. Anyone know for sure it will help?

It gets ride of the large back side of the petcock so you have more room. You instead just need to remember to shut it off every time you park, and back on when you ride.

I took my tank off for the first time on Sunday. Just slid it back a little, lifted the front end up about 4 to 6 inches and it just popped off - maybe I just live right.

Nicka, you're lucky. Some have to wiggle and twist to get their tank off. I couldnt get mine off without removing the petcock but I've never heard of someone removing a stock tank and petcock without some mild frustration. The raptor solved this and then some. I frequently forget to switch it to off though Id suggest you train yourself into the habit of doing so. Luckily my float valve is in working order. If it wasnt....

I attached one of those speed pin seperating key chains with a long cord to the Raptor petcock and my bike keys as a reminder to turn my petcock off before I remove my keys. Works pretty well.
