Title: Another Helmet Question
Post by prechermike on 06/01/09 at 05:07:44

It is almost the good ole summer time here in Eastern North Carolina!  That means 90 degrees and pleny of humidity.  What do you guys do to clean the inside of your helmet?  It can get pretty sweaty and therefore stinky around here.

Thanks

Is the liner removable? The liner on mine is and is machine washable. Check to see if yours is.

Make sure you let it dry and your not allergic first. My wife gets a rash where ever febreeze touches her. It would suck to have a rash on your head or face.

You could wear a doo-rag under the helmet.

I bet you don't have a helmet theft problem in your area. ;D
I'd remove the liner, and wash & rince, then let air dry.

They make helmet liner cleaner spray. Spray in, wipe down and let dry. I haven't seen one that didn't come out that is odd.

DO-RAG!  Ya ol smelly head!   :P

As far as cleaning, I'd use a mild soap (like dish liquid or ivory soap and water and scrub it with a washcloth or sponge and set it out to dry upside down in the sun.  I have not done this yet, but if mine were dirty inside, that's what I would do.

My husband says he'd use the upholstery attachment to a carpet cleaner.  That might be even better.

The liner in my 1/2 helmet is permanently glued under the lip around the edge.  Of course it only cost $25, so ya gets what ya pays for. :D
