Title: Wal Mart battery tester
Post by rl153 on 05/31/09 at 18:20:58

Some people here have said wal mart sells a voltage tester for batteries  for $10 . I looked at it and it said for 1.5 volt batteries and 9 volt batteries .I wasn't sure so I bought the $20 version that said 12 volt batteries too .Which one is the right one? Thanks

I bought a multimeter there for something like twenty bucks.  It checks all sorts of good stuff, including ohms and other things I know nothing about.  Reads up to a thousand volts, although my 4000 volt electric fence made it squeak and then quit working.

I can't remember the brand name on it.  It was bright yellow, if that helps.  Worth every penny.

Not sure if that's what you're asking, but it will certainly check your battery.

I also have a multimeter from Wal-Mart. Has four positions on the dial for different battery types and lights to tell you if it is bad, questionable or good. It also has all the other stuff like ohms, amps and voltage. Has been very helpful for many projects. I believe it cost around $20 in the hardware section.

Yeah, it still works.  Just needs a little tune up.

I popped the fuse on my tester too. Not on the bike though.

I don't know why you need a tester,When you charge the battery the charge will come down as it charges, that shows the battery is good. And a good battery will charge up.

The tester most of us have is usefull for a lot more than just checking the battery.

Just about every hardware store will have a decent multimeter $20 or less  that will do much more than test batteries.

Its cool to know if the battery is up to proper voltage, but a load tester checks the battery to see how it handles being forced to deliver current.
Mine died. I need a new one.
