Title: newbie again- carb problem? Post by Joshua on 05/23/09 at 21:56:20 So I just bought a 99 savage last Monday. I've ridden it several times with no problems. However, twice I've let it sit for 12 plus hours and couldn't get it started. So today when it wouldn't start, I'm playin around with it and notice a liquid in the air box. The liquid turned out to be gas and from the research I've done it seems like the floats aren't adjusted correctly (I could be wrong, please let me know). I downloaded the clymer manual and cannot for the life of me find the measurements that it's supposed to be. The manual said something about Table 1 and the only table 1 I've found was just a conversion table. Any help would be greatly appreciated. So if you know the exact measurement or even a ballpark figure to start with that would be great, I'd love to get back on the road. Also the bike backfires when I shut her off unless I turn out the idle screw, any thoughts on that? Thanks Joshua |

Post by dr1445 on 05/24/09 at 07:37:23 page 208 1.06 to 1.114". you may need to replace your float needle and seat, or it could be just particles in your fuel. are you running an inline filter? it might be a good idea to drop the tank petcock and see that the petcock filters are clean. |

Post by verslagen1 on 05/24/09 at 08:45:43 Get a clear tubing that will fit the nipple on the bottom of the carb. turn the petcock to prime open the drain on the bowl and the fuel should come up to the top of the bowl, more or less. Things to check fuel in vac line, should be none dirt in float valve screen worn float valve leaking petcock personally, I've had a float valve with an indentation in it for 2 years and it has never given me any problems, other than having to watch it like a hawk. I've also had a leaky petcock that I just recently changed out cause the diaphram gave out. |

So I adjusted that and let some seafoam hang out in the carb all night and put some in the gas. I inspected the float needle and petcock filter and replaced the fuel line. Hopefully that took care of it. I'm fixing to take it for a spin around the block and see how she behaves. Oh, is anyone else having problems with their search function in the clymer pdf? Title: Re: newbie again- carb problem? Post by LANCER on 05/24/09 at 19:23:00 The petcock failing to work properly an allowing fuel to flow down the vac line to the carb is a common issue. Rebuild the pectock or change to the Raptor petcock for trouble free service. |
