Title: Tripple Tree question
Post by Savage_Amusement on 05/23/09 at 09:26:20

I'm wondering if it would be a super bad idea to drill two 5/16"s into the lower fork mount right in the front on the downward part.

In this pic it would be the front facing part in front of the headlight. I'm really wanting to mount my Front signal lights there. They don't weight anything at all and there would be zero stress added. It would be the perfect spot. I'm just not sure if it would be "safe" enough.

Thanks

That would be fine....

Where exactly are you planning on drilling? I don't see enough meat to drill for your purpose unless I am misunderstanding.

Would they be effective for signaling if they're mounted that close to the centerline and that close to the bright headlight?  I'm more in favor of safety over style, and I want a motorist to have every chance of seeing me and what I'm signalling.

If you are planning on a couple of micro lights there, no one will see them.  But a couple of big a$$ed trailer lights they will.

Not sure where else to put them then. Bike doesn't have a lot of places on the front. Major hold up in getting my bike back up and going. Other than the freaking never ending gas tank that is.

Did you see the bar end lights and mirrors that someone fabbed up a couple of months ago?

Of course it's up to you what you do, it may even work out better than we thought.  just mock it up w/out drillin' a bunch of holes so you don't want it, you can pull it off and forget it.

You can get surface mount trailer lights, ovals that will cover the space you want to use.  And they come with running/turn signal options.  Stick 'em on w/double sticky tape and take a look at 'em in the dark.

These would be awesome but I'm not spending around 300 for freaking turn signals.

Something like that would be sweet. Stock mounts are gone so that is out of the question and I only have one mirror.

Okay, I understand now. I automatically assumed (yeah I know Ass-U-Me) you were talking about typical turn signals that extend out on a stem.

I actually have some of these that I was hoping to use. I have 4 red ones and 2 amber ones. I know exactly how I'm adding the red ones, it was just how to use the amber ones.

this is what I'd do, strap it in place and walk around and see how visible it is.  Maybe do one side stock as a comparison.

I saw these lights too, and what I'm concerned with is how visible they are from different angles.  From my seat I can see the front stockers light up so I know that they're visible from someone directly beside me.  If those lights are going do you have to be in front to see them?  Are you going to need a set pointing sideways to alert those beside you?

And if you mount them to the bottom tree, they'll be pointed up somewhat and not at the best angle.

You need lights with arrow so they would point the way your turning,Maybe kind of corny.

All reasons why I'm here seeking other people's advise! If I use these in the front I'd still use some 360's if I can ever find them that wrap around the tubes. That is ideally what I want. I just have these already. I tried to make a bracket mounts under the headlight and would make them mount next to the headlight but I just didn't look right.

They sell flex mount strips of LED's
Did you try wrapping one of these around?

And I'd mount these lights under the bottom tree

The problem with most of those is that they are only either one or the other. I know that they sell little devices that convert to run/turn.

I think he means me.  I love the way it cleans up the bike.

Here's a pic with me standing about five feet behind the bike.

http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh128/russ_diamond_jim/1a-4.jpg

I can see everything better than I could with my stock mirrors.  They were either showing shoulder or sky.  These inside half of the mirrors are about flat wile the outside half have a barely noticeable convex shape so I can see a little more horizontally than with stockers.  Plus they are super clear.  They are bolted into the steel vibration dampening plugs.  Can't get much more vibration-free than that!  Only cost about $22 total to build but these are not a mod for the light of heart!

You got me!  They are actually mosaics with midden messages to be overlooked by all on here except the one other secret agent on this forum who will zoom in and decipher the sensitive info.

I put some new glass in them this morning.  I shaped the backs a little to bring the inside focal view point a little closer behind me.  Hey, did you noticed the metal housing on them that wasn't there yesterday when you saw 'em?

I'm working on something else.

Jim I like the look!

I just can't do that because I have bar end helmet locks so we can lock both of our helmets. I'll be sure to show what I have later.
