Title: hello all

New to cruiser bikes- just bought a 2004 savage with 3000 miles on it. Couldnt beat the price and the bike is showroom. Havent rode it yet will be picking it up next thursday. It seem that alot of people have changed the forward controls on their savages. Are they really that tight for a 5-11 inch person?

Have you sat on it yet?

I'm exactly 5'11'' and I sat on my first s40 this week. I was actually really surprised how cramped it felt for a cruiser/standard. My knees were like almost above the gas tank.

If you don't have a problem with the feel/look then more power to you. I'm sure there are 6 foot + people riding these things but I personally wouldn't do it without forwards.

Once I find a good deal on one its one of the first things I plan on doing.

I'm 5'11", and the forward controls definately helped. I have about a 33" inseam. After the seat mod I wish I'd ordered the 4", but the 3" are working just fine.

I'm 6' but only a 31" inseam and with my sportster seat, I like the stock pegs.

Daaang, Vers, I bet you dont have to bend over far to touch your toes.
I am 5'6 with a 30 inch inseam, so your waist would be about an inch above mine & your head 6 inches on UP there!
I knew a guy in high school with that build & he could kick like a mule.

Seating/Pegs/Controls: Seems to me that moving the seat back would raise the butt up from the ground & relieve the knees at the same time. Someone built a raised seat & built a filler panel to go between frame & seat. Who did that? It might be something our new member would be interested in.

Well, those are the pants I buy, maybe I need more room than most.   ;D

I'm 6' even last time I checked and weigh @ 254lbs. The stock controls did make me feel as if I were riding in the fetal position, but once I installed some homemade forward controls the comfort level skyrocketed (at least to me it did.)

Ed. L makes a fine set of forward controls out of aluminum that have been getting some very good reviews. I would definitely look into them after you sit on the bike and check your own comfort level. One persons comfort is another persons torture I have found.

this is one of the few times that being 5'6" comes in handy! ! !

other then i don't need a lift when i work on lifted trucks lol

someone asked me if the savage was a girl bike, i said he wouldn't ask such a question if he saw the gallery on here!!!!!
